Default Time to change it up!! Pic heavy

Here is a pic of my SCX during the comp in January @ RRW.

I really love the rig but I was tired of the blue Chevy body. So it is time for a change. I always loved the look of a truggy. I'm no master builder, so here we go!

Started with removing front & rear bumpers & dinky cantilever system.

Here is the body of choice, 57 Chevy pickup. But I had to convert it to a cab only. As luck would have it the tailgate fit the opening damn near perfect. I only had to make some aluminum corners to fill the gaps. These corners will also be used for the rear body mounts.

Now it was time to cut the rear frame rails & start the rod work. I used a mixture of 3/16 & 1/8 steel rod.

More updates to come, enjoy!

I needed a place to store my GT Fab sand ladders so the would not be in the way. I believe this will work out great.

Please keep in mind this is only tack welded for mock up.

Today I was able to finish the shock mounts and create a little bed area.

Once the back is done I still have to build up a front bumper and stinger. I did order a set of 100 mm king shocks for the rear & stiffer springs for the front.

Well tonight I made some more progress, I made a cage & base for my light bar. I was nervous leaving it un protected ( especially for as often as I roll over). I'm not 100% sold on it yet. Opinions are welcome.

I also trimmed the fender wells about as much as I would like to. I also removed the lex an bumper to make room for the tube bumper & stinger.

Maybe use some 3/8" wide flat stock to make a box for the light bar. Might protect it more.

Lookin' good.

I have to find a place where I can get a better selection of stock. Home Depot, lowes & ace has all the same crap!

I was able to come up with a front bumper design I really like. I still need to sand blast & grind some nasty welds( but they are strong!)

I also got a set of 100 mm king shocks for the rear, with no droop she looks fast standing still.

I just painted that body. Front grill looks janky - just like I thought it would. Can't see how you can tape the undulating surface there and liquid mask leaks like a sieve at the edges.

Here are some pics from today's outing. The truggy performed great! I do have to fine tune the shocks a little though.

I will not be painting it. Jesse Walker does my painting. I suck as a painter!

Here is the inspiration! Jesse will be duplicating the weathered look.

While the body is in Texas being painted I finished up my scale accessories.
