Default To build or rtr

I can't decide if I should build a g6 or buy a dead bolt and upgrade to the extra aluminum bits if they break. I like the idea of building a kit and it will be my first one, I'm just not sure what electronics to go with. I'm shortly going to be upgrading my wraith to brushless so I will have the stock 20t and esc from that. Any pointers on either would be great.

I say kit but I enjoy building them although I do like the Deadbolt body over the G6. If you have some electronics to get you started with the G6 I say build.

If you have the electronics already then go for the kit. The stock electronics in my scx10 have held up very well. Only upgrade if you have to in my opinion. Have fun

Thanks, I have a radio from a car I don't use anymore and a servo from my drift car so I guess I'm gonna see what I can throw together, looks like I need to place an order with tower and start swapping the brushless in the wraith

Ditto on the kit. Use your wraith electronics and when they fail, upgrade with a castle creations esc and a holmes hobbies or brood racing motor. Either way build it and have fun.

Cheers,

Finally ordered a kit last night, went with the unlimited and scored a factory rx/tx and tactic servo off one of my buddies. Can't wait to start building it

What's a good gear ratio for a stock 20t

Axial kits are just about as easy as they get. Just take your time and make sure you understand the step before you proceed. The best thing about kits is knowing how everything went together, makes it a lot easier for tuning, repairing and upgrading.

Just finished my SCX10 kit.

If I'd just pulled it out of the box, I'd have have been driving the thing a lot quicker than the 4 weeks its taken me to source the required parts, BUT far less familiar with how it all goes together.

Depends on what you like doing I suppose....but i like building.

I'd recommend staying somewhere in the 4.5-5:1 range. 88:16 should stay nice and cool and would be a good starting point.

Thanks gonna run by the hobby shop tonight and grab some gears, need to get a pinion for my wraith since it's going brushless.

Any cons on stretching 1.9 on to 2.2. I really like the trial ready 2.2 and they are cheap bead locks but I don't want to go to a 2.2 tire, ran the course at Rc excitment in Fitchburg ma Friday night and the 1.9 trail with my wraith was very tight.

Axels, shocks, trans and all the links are built just need to get the chassis together tomorrow and I'll have a roller. I also tried to mount the maxxis on my 2.2's off my wraith and I'm going to stick with the 1.9 wheels.

ive seen a few streched 1.9s running around on here. the wraith in general is a wide truck. i noticed that running my scx next to one!

Buy the Deadbolt and have fun upgrading it and re greasing it. Have a Deadbolt and new Spawn kit. Will upgrade a rtr every time after doing both a kit and Rtr. RTRs are instant gratification.

cool. the kits are fun to put together, but what really helps is when you break something you will know how it comes apart and goes back together. now since your a vw guy also, you might wire up a "check engine" light straight to the battery so it's always on like a normal vw!!!

btw, i'm a vw guy to, but mine are all older aircooled ones.

If you don't need bling, the RC4WD and Gmade steel wheels are very good and much less than $100 for a set ($40-60 depending on the style). If you want some bling for less than $100, best bet is to buy a star and watch the classifieds here. It doesn't take long for a good used set to come up. The star will pay off many times over.

Explanation here:
Classifieds??

Basically, buying a star for $20 helps support the site and give you immediate access to the classifieds. You probably need to use a web browser to see the screen where you purchase a star.

AX10 RTR or Kit for a build? Kit seems more popular, but RTR has some nice features. nukexbi Axial AX-10 Scorpion 21 05-09-2008 01:27 PM
