Default Needing help on tire options

I am running a stock deadbolt with the only mods ive done being cut the side rock bars a little and reversed the tread pattern on the tires. I am going to be doing my first crawl comp in a couple weeks and tried out the course yesterday and found a few areas my truck just can not do. Not sure if a taller tire or anything would help.

Thanks in advance. Ive been all over this forum looking for answers

The stock tires on the SCX-10 are actually pretty good.

I would start out looking at other mods:

Relocating the battery lower and towards the front.
Adding weight to the wheels
changing to metal wheels.
Many others here on RCC just check out the build threads.

If do want to upgrade the tires. Pitbull Roxk Beast Tires along with Crawler Innovations foams are really nice.

those Treps are directional
and designed to run one direction.

reversing them is not advantages...
and will reduce tread clean out if they see any dirt/mud.

it's a fairly decent tire otherwise.

Pitbull rock beasts or growlers! Some nice new wheels would also help get some unsprung low weight which is what you want. At your first Comp though you will realise that it is all about how much steering you have so start looking into c-hubs, cvd's and an upgraded servo to improve your steering!

I'd work on weight placement first but I do recommend the RC4WD Mickey Thompson MTZ tires.

Like others said, battery up front is crucial. The secret when doing scale RC is to think of it like on a real truck. Most of the weight is up front.

As for the tires, Pitbull are still pretty good although i have switched to the Axial Krawler and really love them! Foams are a key factor here! That is a Krawler tire on a 9 pounds rig:

Of course the major factor is the one who holds the remote and what he can do with it. You need to spend a lot of time tuning your rig... Trust me, it is pretty hard to beat a well-tuned rig driven by the tuner himself!

I'm having very good luck with the treps that came with my scx10 wrangler unlimited. I did move the battery up front to behind the front shocks and replaced the stock plastic rims with some steel ones. The rims were due to me being a noob and using crap glue which lead to a popped bead on my first crawling day out. Other than that, I kept up with the guys running rings with all kinds of fancy tire set ups.

Time on the trail, rocks or dirt to really figure out what, if anything you want to change.

Nice, and yes practice driving makes a big difference, take your time and watch what the tires, shocks, body, everything is doing and how it moves as you crawl. Know your rig, know your remote.
