| What is the ideal shock length for SCX10?
Hi, I am building a custom crawler on an SCX10 chassis, anyway only after finishing it did I realize the 120mm shocks i bought are way too long. I was wondering what people have found to be the ideal shock size for the SCX10, for ideally 50/50 going fast/crawling. Also if anyone could recommend some good value for money shocks that would be great, thanks. |

I just put on the King 100mm shocks. I believe they are the same length as stock.

100mm is the longest I'd run using the stock mounting locations. JMO... The suspension should settle (static ride height) to about 60/40 % (comp/rebnd). I roll 50/50 and prefer the lower cog netted. Spring rate and oil viscosity are best lite if slow mo crawling... tho' higher speed, impact bashing may do better with higher C. spring rates and thicker oil viscosity. |

Associated shocks from the rear of the B4 (the older ones, not the 12mm big bores) are a great, cheap option. They are a little longer than stock at 93mm (stock are 90mm), springs are cheap, and they don't leak. I got 4 shocks taken off RTR versions of the B4 on ebay for $25. My SCX10 isn't a speed demon but with a Tenshock motor on 3s, its good for 10-12mph on open ground. The Associated shocks do a good job of keeping things relatively stable at full throttle while still allowing some good crawling action. Granted, I spend very little time slow crawling on strictly rocks but I think it's good. The hardest part about installing the AE shocks is drilling the bushings out for 3mm hardware since they are meant for SAE screws. |

For 50/50 go fast/crawl I'd stick to the stock length @ 90mm or close to it. Wouldn't want to go over 100mm myself, or even see the need to go that big.

I run 100mm Kings awesome shock . But I believe in the scx10 stocks are 90mm. And the wraith are 103mm .

I like 90mm shocks personally but they fit my driving style and the terrain I run on.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated. Will prob go for King 90mm dual spring shocks. Just one quick question, when you quote shock size that is the hole to hole size yeah? Thanks

| Re: What is the ideal shock length for SCX10? Some manufacturers use eye to eye and some use the total length. Be sure to also pay attention to compressed length when buying shocks. I think that the 90mm Kings do not have the travel that the stock shocks do.

| Re: What is the ideal shock length for SCX10? Generally yes, it's center-to-center of the holes. However Associated doesn't list overall length, but instead the length of stroke (1.02", 1.32", 27mm, 35mm, etc.).

King shocks sucks, go for something better if you gonna spend so much. Proline scaler shocks is much better, or axial Icon shocks from the kit is pretty good.

Cheers for all the advice, I ended up going for GMADE shocks, the ones with the additional reservoir. Not sure if i made the right decision but I went for the 103mm. Hopefully the rig will be stable enough. Basically my rig is built custom from the ground up using an SCX10 chassis and after some measurements i think I would have had a bit of trouble with the steering servo hitting the chassis with 90mm shocks, anyway will see how it goes.

My 93mm gmade are a lil short...i used a spacer at the top shock mount to get the correct height. |
