Great build, I love those original Couriers, my buddy's dad bought one when they first came out and we used to go do donuts and burnouts with it all the time! It was a baby blue longbed, 5-speed and pretty fast for a four cylinder...good times lol.

Nice build! I used the Proline Cherokee interior cut to fit in mine......wish I would have never sold it.

Yours was one of the ones I was checking out before I started this build. I almost got the Pro-Line interior on your recommendation, but decided to try to get a bench seat in there.

I love the drop bed and sliders on yours.

[QUOTE=JohnnyAnguish;5284324]Here it is with the body roughly trimmed out. I've since enlarged the wheel wells a little, but I'm trying not to chop it up too bad. I'd love to have it sit lower, but that's about as low as it'll go if I want to run bumpers and sliders (and not trim up the wheel wells even more). I was originally going to run bumperless for a stock look, but there's no rear bumper on the body, so I'd at least have to have a rear bumper. And once that gate is open, I might as well go all out...

The electronics are in and it's runnin':
  • Axial 27t motor
  • HobbyWing QUICRUN 1060 ESC (swapped on a Dean's connector)
  • Hitec HS-5646WP servo (the Savox I originally picked out was a little to big and the cable was binding on the frame)
  • Castle 10A BEC
  • Spectrum SR410 receiver

Also of note, the rear is 4-linked again. I added a couple of spacers to the rear links to get the wheelbase exactly how I want it (rear wheels centered in the wheel wells, fronts ever so slightly forward to try to get those smaller tires onto the rocks). That meant I could run the plastic upper links from the kit in the rear and still have a good pinion angle.

Really like the way you did the light bezal on the body,i would have never had thought of that...great idea...
But would like to point out it's to bad you didn't try to use earth magnets or Velcro to mount your body rather then having the post showing..

I thought about doing velcro. In the end it's a not particularly detailed lexan body, so the body posts/pins won't bother me. No one is going to mistake this for the real thing. Hopefully my dad will be OK with this decision.

If you do decide to change your mine, just use little pieces of left over lexan on the inside to cover the hole and small amounts of shoo goo.Try to level off the hole on top some how......and if it still doesn't bother you disregard this post...lol . I'm sure your dad will love it regardless what it looks like.I know i would.

This'll be running 2S with the 27T motor. It should be able to handle 3s just fine (specs list brushed motors down to 18T), but that's probably more wheel speed than this rig will need.

All of this is subject to change once the rubber hits the rocks.

Nostalgia builds are always the best. I guarantee you that even just putting the thought alone into something like this is going to be a huge hit with your dad. Looking forward to the rest of the build!

If you have headlights, you've got to have taillights, right? I raided my spares for these Axial buckets. They're a little more rounded than the Ford Courier taillights, but they'll do. This picture was from while I was test fitting.

Oh, I've got a good idea for reverse lights, as well...

This guy is itchin' to do some off-roading!

I'm no artist, but he should look OK once he's inside the truck. From a distance. While it's moving.

I was originally planning on running a Savox steering servo, but the tall servo housing and the short wheelbase weren't playing nicely together (the servo cable would bind on the chassis brace). I swapped in a Hitec I had waiting for another project, but that meant I needed a new double clamping servo horn. Done.

The plastic Dingo bumpers are waaaay too wide for the narrow Ford Courier body. I thought about cutting them down. The front may have worked out, but the back wouldn't have looked very good. In the end, I ended up with this front bumper (which should sit nicely in front of the molded in body bumper)...

... and this rear bumper...

It's an RC4WD bumper for the TF2. Fits the Dingo rear bumper mount just fine.

I think the interior is done (well, done enough). Got it all painted up, including the color matched interior bit. I made some gauge, radio and fan control decals based on photos from an actual Ford Courier to add a little interest.

My grandfather was the handiest guy I've ever known, so I wanted to incorporate some tools. It came with a wooden toolbox, but it looked too big in there. I ended up just gluing a few of the tools to the seat.

Now to finish up the rest...
