Default Drew's 6x6 F250 SCX10 with FULL custom flat bed trailer!

Hey all,
It's been a huge while since I last posted on RCC. School (first year university) has gotten in the way as well as a busy summer. Busy in a sense that my old build thread and truck, the green F250, has now gotten significantly longer.... Drew's SCX10 F250 build thread. - RCCrawler

Read back on the past thread to get a better sense of what I was starting off with. But here is where things are going to stay, no new threads. This one has lots of work left on it still so stay tuned!

The first part of the build was the trailer.... Truck.... Uh, trucktrailer? This build was VERY all over the place but I should go over the truck first.

Starting off the build I went all in and ordered GMADE XD PIGGYBACK shocks for all 6 corners. Fronts are non piggyback versions but they made a huge difference to the smoothness of the truck and I can dial in the rear end for heavy trailer loads.

After that I had a friend get me some c shape steel rods, which were garbage from construction, lucky for me they were free and fit the frame absolutely perfect!!

Everything on the chassis extension as well as the trailer is held together with 4-40 screws and nuts and/or epoxy steel. The chassis extension was very easy to design, adding exactly 4 inches to the wheelbase.

In the last picture there are some parts missing and some I have yet to touch on.

For the back axle, it has custom made steering links and pan hard bar with the pan hard being attached directly under the servo mount. This took a good 2 hours to get the geometry correct.

Since I got the steel bars from my friend, we both decided that I should do a trailer, so over he brings 10 more feet of metal. So I had to make a custom hitch system.

Most of these pictures show the complete chassis; parts used, parts being installed, mock ups

different front wheels because I was cheap

mostly chassis stuff and the rear axle.

3rd axle waiting to be put in

basically done chassis

Next was fabricating an extension for the body. Removing the honcho rear and adding in 4" long by 1/4" aluminum rods allowed for a lengthening without changing of mounting spots.

The rest of the story will be up in the morning!! Stay tuned because it just gets crazy from here!!

After fabricating the body extension, I had my first go at styrene!

Light box made from RC4WD Light bar guts (I'm using a higher power strip in the casing on the roof)

Notice I also added a single LED onto the back of the box to light up the new storage area

The storage box goes the length of the extension and then under the old honcho cage about an inch for extra room.

More pictures of the truck..

There's a hitch and trailer harness plug built in. Sneak shot of the trailer

The rear steering is all blacked out and the servo is small enough that it lays flat, which means using the stock rear cage is fine.

Fully floating on GMADE XD

Flexing. Notice the blue battery tucked under the spare tire.. Powers the LEDs for the rear of the truck, switch just ahead of it.

AND THE TRAILER!

This started off as being just a simple, one axle trailer... Well, no.....

Initial design ideas, ramp on the back end, boxed section around the axles, completely flat on the top so the axles are drop down.

Rear section

All of the bending and cutting was done by hand with a Dremel and vice.

Close up of axle holders

2.2 Trencher's from 1/16 Traxxas

Waiting to be put together

After paint

Wheels mounted. I tested stiffness before mounting the top sheet of aluminum and it is extremely hard to bend.

2.5mm aluminum sheet.

Cut and ready for riveting.

After paint of the deck, left 1/2" bare for better Epoxy adhesion.

Forgot to take pics of building the side rails with light cause they were a huge PITA.

Under shot of wiring.

Control box for rear facing spotlights in yellow. White box is battery holder for side marker lights.

Each side is a separate circuit. The rear lights are also separate.

Spotlights on, they run off a 2S balance plug so the same power source as the side markers. They're switched but the side markers are not.

Hitch setup.

Night shot. All LEDe blazing

For scale.. The 6x6 on the trailer. It's big and heavy.

[IMG]http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/01/cc8a82247975484e327d6e123c49a31b.jpg[/IMG

Seriously heavy unit with my Losi Ten-Brushless, Mini Revo and trailer all attached. It's a unit and a half.
Added extra cooling just in case.

I have since switched out the grille sticker for the blacked out one from ProLine. The front bumper that I had 3D printed is being slightly redesigned and I'm going to be adding more to the rear cage itself. New rock rails are also in order.... Any ideas of some that would look killer??

It even managed to do a 6km hike on less than 3/4 of the 4000mah 3s battery. Let me tell you.. This thing can trail like crazy.

Feedback, suggestions, likes, ideas, complaints. Anything you can throw at me... Get to it. Hope you like it

Drew

I have a Spektrum DX4S which allows me to adjust how much the rear steer works, that said, I have it set to only help a little bit. It's a bit too wobbly when towing the trailer at higher speeds but on trails it makes a fair difference. The problem with running rear steer on a 6x6 is that because the axle has to be flipped over to run forwards, the steering servo must be CMS, so you would have to fab up your own pan hard bar like i have done for the steering to work properly.

No need to CMS rear steer on the rear axle. You will also get much better articulation and independent articulation if you move the links from the middle axle to the frame. I really like 6x6 builds, nice trailer as well

Is the center axle assembled with 2 inner sections of axle?
