TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else I am a total noob in rc. I saw a video in youtube that made me take the plunge so be easy on me. I started out with the Maisto rock crawler which was completely underwhelming. So I decided to empty my pockets out and got myself an scx10 builder's kit, the g6 jeep wrangler. Here it is before painting http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...7165AC8D8D.jpg After the paint job http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...FF8FCDD2D0.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...F801657243.jpg With the Maisto rock crawler http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...6F66845C41.jpg After a few weeks, I had the itch to build a body for it from scratch. I know I want to do a pickup truck... Which one? That remains to be undecided.... A couple of youtube vids later, here's what I got http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...4C2F925187.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...556AAD48F3.jpg Hopefully I get to finish this build like I envisioned it to be. Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else Looking good. If you wanted to build a body you could go in the non crawler rc thread their is a guy called metal masher he scratch builds metal bodys. |
Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else Off to a decent start. If the Youtube vids were of Silverado1's series of builds, then you are on the right track. Building from scratch is very fulfilling. I will use sketches and scaled drawings to start mine. |
Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else Your doing well. There is lots of information to help you I just finished a scratch build called first go at using styreen. I made a thiokol sprite. Hit up a utube video or 2 by headquake. |

Thank you. I did look at his stuff and it is very inspirational. Quote:
I did look at his builds. I know him as scaler from another forum. His work has definitely influenced me. My main inspiration for my build approach is Headquake's videos. Quote:
I am subscribed to Headquake's youtube channel LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else Just a little update. I ended up scratching the last body I did and wanted to begin anew. So here it is. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0BFF85F61D.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...EF34302671.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...D688C242FF.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...548A1FE41B.jpg Testing the wheel wells... http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...D85873D9EA.jpg I honestly don't know if I could make it look like a hilux but for a first scratch build I am happy and I am learning a lot as I go. Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else I looks good so far. I use Bob smith medium thick glue and activator. It sets up slow with just the glue or fast with the activator. My favorite quality about it is it fills most of the gaps etc and you can sand it / shape it. I just used some squadron filler it was easy to work with stinky tho. |
Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else I'm sorry I may be telling you stuff you already know. I draw my stuff in draft sight to scale and print it out as a pattern. Some times it works some times not so much. |

Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else Not a lot has changed but worked a bit on the grill http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...7F668BAF20.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else It looks great! If you have a few zip ties you can cut them with the groves facing out glue them to styreen and give you a radiator. In your parts bag there are light covers you can set inset them in the headlight bezle for headlights . I did some that was with a bit of tin foil behind it. Just a suggestion. I used some clear plastic that was flat for Windows. Also the gold Bob smith glue won't fog or cloud you windows or headlights. And tiamya paint works well on styreen |
Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else How is your build going? |

This build never saw the finish line unfortunately [emoji24] I had difficulty cutting styrene and ended up with tendonitis on my fingers. Sorry to disappoint whoever was following. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else You'll feel better beating on this body than your scratch build project. |
TUrning my scx10 G6 into something else I had a fever and the only cure was some leaf springs. Off I went to Pegasus Hobbies in Montclair, California and was on the hunt for some leaf springs. They don't usually carry TF2 kits or RTRs so I was gonna get the Gmade sawback. Come to find out they ran out of sawbacks. At this time, my fever was getting worse. As I was wandering the aisles of traxxas, something caught my eye, a TF2 kit without the mojave body. The salesperson looked surprised it was even there. Took it home and my fever subsided. http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...5DCFACCA32.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...883E2F21AC.jpg Another TF2 with a Tamiya hilux body was born.
