Default SCX10 IFS - Chevy (Clod Based) Prerunner

So I got a little bored with my 1.9 IFS IH Scout and saw this cool white late '70's Chevy prerunner and got hooked. So I made some lower trailing arms added some Proline Trencher tires on 2.2 wheels for mock up, picked up a Clodbuster body and a cool 3D printed front grill assembly and started a little build. Have a couple of King 110mm shocks for the rear, and started the body mods.
Used HPI RS4 front suspension parts, Blue Monkey front spool, matched Axial gear set, inverted the rear axle to match the HPI front rotation. Front bumper is from the Scout, hasn't been modified for the Chevy yet.

Its a start......

Inspiration

The chassis

Test fit the body to check stance

Started to section the rear quarter panels so I could move the wheel well lip to the outer edge. Started the quarter panel extensions, and the front fender flares

And the grill

Had just enough time tonight to finish most of the styrene mods. Started some shaping, almost ready for filler. Have an idea for some inner wheel wells.

A little more progress. Got the first coat of primer on, a lot of spot filler sanding left to do. Started on the rear cage, shock mounts, battery cover. Ordered a set of Crawler Innovations 2.2 6 holes, with there negative offset, I am hopping to get a little more "tuck" in the rear tire setup. Still more tube work to go.

In some pics you have a cantilever rear suspension... I take it your not using that setup. I love the build. So cool to see what can be done with an SCX10 as the base and a bunch of talent and ingenuity.

Thank you for your inspiring comments! Well for once I think I got lucky. I took a couple measurements, and a guess or two as I was really trying to get my "tuck" - the rear tire/wheel combo looked a little wide. So went to Crawler Innovations for a couple of 6 Bolts, 1.5" wide and Vanquish SLW hubs - 325's and a spare set of Trenchers. Think I got exactly what I wanted. Problem is that the 1.5's are to wide for the front, will check out a set of 1" inchers. Got the cage almost complete, waiting for a Exo radiator / fan set before I clean up all the welds. Now back to sanding and another coat of primer. And yes, it had cantilever rear shock set up, but modified the rear for this build.

It's actually the top off a spare Vaterra Blazer radio box I had sitting around. Thanks for the comments too!

Just curious, why not use a more scale tire? Everything about this build is very purposeful so I'm sure you have a reason. It just seems like a typical 1.9 tire might fit better in the wheel wells. Those trenchers are really wide.

Good question.....oddly enough, and it maybe the visual size of the Proline/Trencher combo, my 1.9 Rok Lox are 1/16" wider then the Trencher combo. They are the exact same width as a set of 1.9 Swampers also. I tried 1.55's but the overall height of this combo seems to fit best from a "realisum" perspective, even though the wheel diameter is a bit out of scale. Of course this is my opinion, but I kinda dig it like this.

Quick update, got the cage done, time for clean up and paint time. After the paint shop was done it went to some lite detail assembly. Have to decide if I am mounting 1 or 2 spare tires.

Just got the body back from the paint shop. Little bit of curing time required before I can go any further.

Heading out of town for a few days, just had to see what it looked like sitting on the chassis.

WOw...Thanks for the kind words!

Still trying to follow a little my inspiration photo. Also never been a fan of decals, but felt compelled to add a few here, just to give the body a bit of a vintage race look. Tackled a few details, grill, lighting and such. Still a ton to do. Added a few Dzus fasteners, albeit also decal based, but really wanted that removable panel look.
