XR 10 Mod axle shaft.. How much to cut off the shaft?
 

I am in the middle of doing the xr10 mod on my scx10. And as I am looking through the diy's I found on google I cannot find the exact measurement to cut off the xr10 shafts. Thanks!

All the ones I have done I take 11mm to start with, then end up grinding slightly more to get right fit. Make sure you grind the flat spot back before you cut it off.

I just put the shaft in the axle flush against the bearing and cut it so the shaft is about center in the diff section and go from there.

Before you connect the tie rod be sure to move each knuckle independently. If it gets hard to turn the knuckle back and forth then you likely need to shorten the shafts a little bit more. You can double check this by removing one of the shafts and checking again. The resistance in steering comes from the kingpin inclination and the ends of the shafts being too long and not allowing the universal joint to fit into its sweet spot in the knuckle/hub assembly.
