| Transmission case......Alloy or plastic?
Well I lost two screws out of the bottom of my transmission case on my last outing. The holes are stripped out. Should I replace the case with an Alloy one or another plastic case??? Reason for your opinion? Is there a down side to either? |

You can get more life out of your current one, Just jam a bit of plastic down in the hole, Then drive the screw in using the bit of plastic to make the hole a bit smaller and the screw fit tight.. Its keeping my trail trucks tranny on |

I finally broke down and bought another plastic for $9 off ebay. I see no need for an alloy one ever.

Ok so the stripped out hole can be repaired. Delux makes threaded inserts. There a dollar each if my memory serves me. 149 r/c worx team driver |

You can just buy some M3 threaded inserts. You drill out the holes in the stock case a bit then jam them in the hole. Your screws would then thread into those. Dlux has them for around 50 cents each. I don't run aluminum cases on any of my rigs. The stock plastic cases held up to my Roc 412 on 3S so I never have seen the need to upgrade.

I have plastic cases on most of my trucks and a $12 aluminum case on one. They both have good and bad points. The plastic case is lighter, cheaper, and more readily available but the holes strip out way too easy and it is easy to get binding if you tighten the case screws too much. The aluminum case eliminates the stripping problem of the screw holes and spins much more free (using the same gears and bearings too). The downside is the cost (or waiting on them to come from the other side of the world) and they require more shimming to eliminate side to side play in the gears. A lot of this play can be taken out of the plastic case just by altering the tightness of the case screws but the aluminum doesn't compress and the play remains, although this may not be an issue for higher quality cases like Vanquish. |

Thanks guys! But a larger (4mm) screw done the trick. It seems to be tight and secure now. If these strip I may try the insert route

Yup I had a plastic case with stripped out holes. Put in M4s and was done with it. Haven't worried about it since.

| Re: Transmission case......Alloy or plastic? Adds body to the CA so it's stronger. I've seen silica sand added in as well. I've ran several alloy cases without issue. I use them for high power rigs along with 4 bolt motor plates. Plastic cases work too and are cheap. Once you have inserts in the case it will be bullet proof. |
