Is the aluminum bearing caps needed?

You mean those that hold the locker down in the axle?

Just don't overtighten the plastic ones and you'll be good. Applies to both wraith and ssd D60 axles.

Yea, those are what I'm talking about. Wasn't sure if it was a problem with them breaking or what not. I'm trying to plan how I'm gonna put them together. Don't plan on taking them apart unless something breaks.

Been running my ssd d60's for about 6 months. No problems to report on the stock bearing caps.

I run the stock caps and diff covers. They're on a mud truck so I don't have to worry about the covers rubbing on rocks, but the caps seem to be fine in plastic. As said, don't over tighten then, just like plastic bead lock bolts.

They ( the stock plastic ones ) are fine for the rear axle, In the comp scene a few of us have had the plastic ones give enough to let the gears slip..

After the aluminum bearing caps, and a shim to take up the slop from the housing, They work as intended, No slipping.
