Default SCX10 ii Universals in SCX10?

I've heard all the driveshaft specs are the same for SCX10 ii compared to SCX10. Should these work then?

Really? I thought for sure Holmes Hobbies review of the ii mentioned this.

I just checked the rear axle shaft specs and they're pretty damn close.

Scx10 ii - 5 × 106 (ax3140

Scx10 - 6 × 104.5 (ax30421)

I'm thinking these would work fine without the need to do any modifications.

Just look for original AX10 (Scorpion) parts. Same axles as the SCX10.

I don't want CVD's. I want the steel universals like the XR10 mod.

I bet the isn't room in the SCX10 C-hubs and knuckles for the SCX10 II universals. The universal joint itself is longer than the C-hubs and knuckles can fit. (I'm guessing).

Though you might be able to modify some stuff to get the SCX10 II C-hubs and knuckles to fit on the SCX10 axle housing, then you'd have a better chance of them working.

Maybe I'll just throw scx10 ii axles under it!

Edit: just watched the video again and he's got both trucks tore down side by side and says that the internal axle shafts are the same. Cross compatible. As this is a new part I would think it would also work in the scx10.

As mentioned, you read wrong. The REAR axle shafts are the same but the front are different. Carterfab did a great comparison. The bearing retainers and pivot center are different.

A Scx vvd is close but no cigar. The centerline pivot is off which would create binding.

Grabbed a Scx narrow mod XR shaft and the joint centerline is good but inner bearing surface is way off.

Then I got to wondering how the new parts match up to the old housings.

Pow!!!!!
Now the disclaimer.
These housings have brass inner tubes which are a must if you do this mod.
You have to grind the little nubs off for the original chub mounts on the housings.
After I set the angle of the new chubs I drilled a hole to match up with the original chub screw hole to add peace of mind.
You'll need a new tie rod, and either a 4 link truss or aftermarket 3 link truss for your upper suspension link.
Other than that, everything bolts up and works fine together and has killer turning.
These are the axles going in my 2.0 as I have different plans for the ar44 housings.....much more on that later.

A mistake on my part evidently! While the rear shafts and overall spacing is the same, it seems the universals won't easily swap out because of the pivot point. I have a feeling the design change was for strength and steering range reasons.

I'll be sure to put a correction on that video.

EDIT: Shinjari beat me to it, but I'm leaving it here anyway.

Looking at pictures of the 30464 CV set and the 31402 universal set, it looks like the pivot point for the CV is much closer to the inner C-hub bearing than the pivot point on the universal. If this pivot is not in line with the C-hub/knuckle pivot you'll have a lot of binding. Possibly making the SCX10 II universal set incompatible with the SCX10. Distance between the outer axle bearing and inner C-hub bearing look similar. Not having the SCX10 II parts here I can't give you any real world details, but I can see from the photos they're not "the same".

Your rear axle specs are not the "same".

If "pretty damn close" is enough for you, then buy the SCX10 II universals and let us know why they don't fit, why Axial doesn't have them listed on the SCX10 parts/option parts pages, why the SCX10 CV shafts are not listed on the SCX10 II parts/optional parts pages and what has to be done to make them fit.

Looks like they'll work with the scx10 ii chubs and knuckles though. Still an easier mod than the Xr10 narrow right? I've never done one, so correct me if wrong.

FBA SCX universals on on their way, almost done with machining

Should just be another couple of weeks. I will throw a pre order out when they are done.

Nothing shaft wise is a cross over part. You can install the new stuff on hold housings with some minor work.
The actual width of the assembled new housings is like .070" narrower if I remember right. Shinjari posted my findings above comparing them to anything that could've been an option. With the pivot point being off, there is no option.
As far as being easier than a narrow XR mod. No. It doesn't get much easier than that since you can also buy everything off the shelf to bolt in with minor case work, that even my 12yrold just did by himself.

I got a confirmation back from Axial that they did not intend backwards compatibility, so that the new parts would be without compromise. I'm sure we will see beef tubes that will allow compatibility with the new chubs and knucks, that will be the best bet for converting an old style to be compatible with new style.

Rear shaft compatibility will depend on which rear shaft, what installation, and what locker. There are a variety of shaft styles designed over the life of the AX10/ SCX10. My main concern would be a lack of bump stop that would allow them to fall inwards too far, since the scxii shafts do not have a depth stop behind the tang.

Is the extra work to do the xrmod worth the difference in steering angle vs. just going with what's available in cvd?

Thanks for the update. I wonder why there is no stop on those. Good catch.

I would say yes it is worth it. Not much to it like others have said. Can even buy already cut axle shafts from beef tubes or soon DLUX!

My kids scx10 is basically stock except for front beef tubes (plain scx10) over drive gears and the narrow XR10 mod for steering (plastic knuckles/plastic chubs/xr10 universals/set screw style locker) and his rig turns on a DIME.

Versus old style yes. That's not what you're looking at there though. That's a version 1 housing with new outers and Shafts just to see if it's possible. Also have better things planned for the ugly stock housings.

Default SCX10 ii Universals in SCX10?

You can buy drop in parts for shafts from Vp. Scx inner with XR stub. No need for cutting or extra pricing.
For XR narrow mod.
