Here's my beef. It's a "drop in upgrade" yet it requires you to have their front mount CMS. That's another $50. Then you get the CMS, and it says "Designed for use with high steer knuckles (SSD00066 & SSD00070)" which are another $30.

So really, it's $230 all said and done, if you wish it to be a "drop in upgrade".

Other than that it looks like a really nice piece, and would allow for full interiors, which are hard to pull off with the SCX10 without jacking the body way up.

You can use any front mount CMS. The motor takes up the space where the servo on the axle would go and side mounted CMS kits.

You don't have to use high steer knuckles with our CMS but it is optimum geometry with them.

I'm quite new to building kits and modifying, so this might be a stupid question...

Looking at the instruction manual for the SCX10 II, there is a slipper plate in the original driveline.
I cannot see any with this transmission, though.

Is there a slipper hidden inside this transmission?

No there is no spur gear or slipper clutch. The transmission would be much larger and more expensive if there was.

Interesting!

So the motor is, via the transmission, shafts and locked diffs, applying the rotation directly onto the wheels.
Is there no risk of damaging the motor if the wheels don't turn or are very hard to turn (e.g. when climbing very steep terrain, or stuck in mud)?

Will the 149 r/c worx's skid work with that transmission?

@nerby149: How would you say that the weight balance has shifted with the front motor transmission solution, as opposed to having the battery up front?

Here's a few cool pics (I think anyways) of the sweet ssd trans with an rc4wd v8 and rc4wd scale trans side by side... Motivates me to build something... just not sure what yet. I know the rc4wd v8/ssd trans combo won't just "bolt" into either of the chassis' they are designed to fit but I also know with just a little fab work there are tons potential here...

Yes unfortunately the V8 (which is also my design) does not fit in an SCX10.

You want to show everybody how to do it?

I have done it on a test mule too but didn't do a tutorial.

A few key steps are are required:
* OG SCX10 trans mount
* Put the front upper link on the opposite side to the tcase front output
* Cut the chassis panhard mount from whatever front CMS you have so you use the stock SCX10 2 panhard mount
* Use SCX10 2 panhard + steering link
* Mount the battery at the back of the chassis

That's it I think...

Has anyone ever installed this transmission on a wraith skid? If so, is the transmission still in the center of the skid or slightly off center? Curious as i have a plan to use this if it will work in a build

Hi SSD.

Im trying to install the trans into a scx2. 2 issues ive encountered and wondering whether you had the same thing.

1. The output from the transfer case to the front shaft gets interfered by the front link mount. Ive mounted the front link to the opposite side however the mount prevents the shaft from connecting. Did you cut it?
2. I switched out to the original trans skid plate. If i choose to screw in at the transfer case it wont line up to the chassis mount. Appears to be out by 2-3mm. So i have to choose to screw transfer case into the skid. Did you need to drill new holes to screw skin into chassis. Edit: just realised the rear links are mounted on the new scx2 skid plate. Currently have it installed but the transfer case not screwed down.

Thanks

I think you are not using an original SCX10 skid. I dont mean the skid from the SCX10.2 box that fits the old transmisison. I mean an actual original SCX10 skid.
