Default scx 10 honcho transmission slip/ steering servo shake

Hey Guys need some help

Just bought a scx 10 honcho it literally has less than40 minutes work time and it all has been fairly light work just gettin used to the truck and crawling and slight inclines.

i drove it up to a rock step up that it normally would just crawl stright up but when the tyres rubbed up agsint the rock it the front tyres lost all drive. and i started getting a noise from i think the transmission. i would best describe it as maybe a slip possbily at least to me that explains why the front wheels would loose drive when bumped up agsint a rock. this happens when going in a stright line. If i turn the wheel and acclerate the noise gets worse and i start to get a massive shake/wobble in the steering servo.

Anyone had anything like this ? not to sure when i need to start looking. Its bog stock out of the box like 4 days again and im fairly anoyed and dissapoiinted that something has broken so quickly and easily

If it's that new, call Axial and talk through it with them They may even warranty parts for you.

Sounds like there's a problem in your front diff or possibly the tranny - more likely the diff though if your rears are still driving.

try tightening the sliper clutch.. and if that doesn't work, open the transmission near the motor, check the gears inside and spur + pinion, if you're still using plastic gears and somehow part of it striped off then you have to move into HD gears

whatever it is, I do hope you find the best solution for your rig

im currently at work and cant find any proper pics of the slipper clutch? can you chuck up a picture the slipper clutch, while ive been playing with rc cars for a long time this ist he first time ive ever really stated to mess with the internals. In saying that i am an avid 4x4 and car guy so once i make the connection of rc part to car part ill get a better understanding

Check the manual for your rig. If you didn't get one/dont have one, RPP sells them for a couple bucks or try amd download a manual from Axial's site. Either way if your going digging into the tranny you'll want a bible (manual) to tell you what to do. Theres also some helpful notes about stock slipper settings ( 2 full turns back off full compression of slipper spring).
Hope this helps, good luck and post up with ?'s, members here are very helpful and willing to help if possible.

Tho' a loose slipper clutch can create a "no drive" issue.
It shouldn't make any noise.

Transmission issues - fault...
I could think of two issues that may be your problem...

1. The motor's pinion gear and the trans. external spur gear teeth are not meshing properly
and thus, not engaging to drive the transmission.

2. The transmission's internal plastic idler gear has become stripped...
and will not engage... tho' occasionally it may still make an attempt.

The faulty idler gear mesh may still attempt to engage when not under load and when driven on flat terrain.
If a idler gear is stripped it makes a noise when it slips the few teeth that may be rounded off.

A stripped idler gear is a common occurance...
especially if the slipper clutch is set too tight...
and any bind going forward/reverse is forced.

Replacing the internal plastic transmission gears with metal (steel) gears
is the best solution.. As the plastic idler gear strips easily.

Tho' my son has kept his original plastic idler gear from stripping
by not over tightening the slipper clutch.
But doing that also limits it's crawling capability

Keeping the slipper somewhat loose will reduce the SCX-10's crawling capability.
So I would recommend upgrading to the metal (steel) internal trans. gears.
And tighten down the slipper clutch without concern.
Some folk even eliminate the slipper clutch altogether.

Welp bottom line is... plastic is plastic...
so if ya utilize a 6s LiPo... you could still break everything else !? Lol

--------------------

As far as the shake on the front axle /or servo, could be a coupla' things...

1. If it was disassembled at some point or incorrectly assembled...
it could be the front drive shaft is not phased (aligned) correctly.
This is an DS alignment issue... the drive shaft halves have marks on them
to determine/position that alignment correctly.
That or use the universal's pins at both ends of the DS
to be sure they visually mirror each other as the DS turns.

2. Something is loose /or not tightened properly.

So is the whole axle shaking or is it just the servo ?

Was this a new or used RC when you purchased it ?

Factory assembled RTR ? (I might presume)

-------------

btw... a real 1:1 4X truck costs thousands of dollars generally

so in retrospect...
Dropping $ 300. on a toy isn't very much coin... IMO

And no the proprietor didn't get rich off you by selling that to you.
Mark up for them is maybe 10%

So no you didn't pay for their months rent/lease.

The proprietor's goal is to get you to come back
and spend more for replacement parts/upgrades...
which net a 40% mark up.

You can generally find parts online that cost less...
But supporting your local hobby store means you have a customer service base
and a place that could do the labor or resolve issues for you.

i dropped it off to the hobby shop man, becasue he was a little stumpped himself and said that abit odd. it was brand new out of the box rtr, running a 2s lipo and it would of been lucky to have 30 minutes run time so far. It had run fine and perfect in that first 30 minutes no issues, i had barely even put it on its lid testing out how far it could flex etc. Once this is resolved hopfully today ill let everyone know what they found on the inside.

Being so new the best thing for it was to go back and let them deal with it

...true

a reputable hobby store should fix it for you...
especially if they want your future business.

But realize replacing the faulty plastic components or trans. gears
may be short lived if yer not careful.

And so I'd personally spend the extra coin...
and upgrade the trans. gears to metal (steel).

It takes only 30 seconds to strip a plastic idler gear.
Jumping, landing or a forced bind will do it quickly.
Doesn't matter if it's only running 2s.

Not saying it is your fault... just that it can easily happen to anyone.
The plastic trans. gears rather suck... Primarily that plastic idler gear.
IMO... the plastic trans. gears are a weak link right from the start.

Let us know what they find.

It has to be front diff or front driveshaft. A bad slipper or transmission idler would result in no power to the entire truck.

I would first check the driveshaft from the trans to the front axle and make sure that the shaft is secured properly. If that checks out OK, you need to rip the front axle open.

I'm thinkin' like 1967Typhoon on this one.
First thing Ida checked would be the front drive shaft.
Hope hobby shop man can figure it out for you quickly.
