SCX10 Rubicon WB8 driveshaft clicking

I have the Jeep with the wild boar driveshafts and the plastic shafts are fine but I'm getting judder and clicking with the joints.

I've sprayed WD40 previously and it made a big difference but my son is pretty aggressive and they are just getting noisier and noisier.

I looked at the WB HD which I have on the Yeti and Bomber (they don't click and seem very happy) but I read the metal coupling is the same as on the stock WB8; just the HD has a bigger pin but the rest of the metal part is the same.

Is this correct?

The joint hasn't broken or seized and I know they can take big power and abuse like the Yeti setup so should I simply buy another joint to replace the clicking joint or is there a reason the joint starts clicking? Bent pin etc?

MIPs are about $100 plus shipping here so I'm not exactly keen on replacing them with something I'll struggle to get parts for (plus parts for MIP likely won't be cheap or readily available even if they are super tough).

Never use WD40 as a lube. That's not what it is.

Take the stuff apart and look at it. Clean it. Lube it.

I use the WD40 to clean out the dirt as the joint gets filled after a run. It makes a noticeable difference.

I wouldn't recommend WD-40 either. I personally prefer dry lube in the pivots on driveshafts because it won't collect dirt like a wd40 will. Did the clicking start after you had the driveshaft apart? If so you may not have the pins aligned properly.

have you taken the drive shafts apart ?

Sounds to me as if they're not phased correctly.

The inversals at both ends of the drive shaft must align with each other.

There is a index mark on the driveshaft tubes that need be in alignment.
But that's only good if the driveshaft were assembled correctly to begin with.

Best to align the pins of the universal mirroring each other.

WD-40 is a water displacement, not a lubricant.
And it can damage or even destroy some plastics.
For some plastics it will dry out the material's natural oils.

Better to avoid using WD-40 altogether IMO.

Regular cleaning using a stiff paint brush and air pressure to blow it off works best.
The only thing that needs lubrication is the universals.
Tho' most wet lubricants will just allow more dirt to adhere.

I use no lubricants... but clean them often.
If they squeak... maybe some graphite lube at the universals
that goes on wet to penetrate... but dries quickly.

But if ya don't clean the universals first... it's only a temporary bandaide.

The pins definitely line up on all driveshafts.

Rather than pull them down all the time I use the WD40 to remove dirt; it would be a huge pain to do it every time they started clicking or got sticky. I'll pull them apart again and have another look.

For reference, the Yeti and Bomber with the WBHD shafts run silent.

I noticed the 3 link front end plastic ball plug thing had pulled through the bracket again even though I put a bolt on the back and a washer on the front and as the SCX10 gets jumped and abused by an excitable 7yo I converted it to a 4 link front. The movement might have been the reason it started clicking in the first place. It seems much more solid now and hardly clicked today even after the usual merciless thrashing my son doles out.
