How do you improve the turning radius out of a stock scx10 deadbolt? The steering is nowhere near my scx10 v2.

That's to be expected, two totally different axles. How much are you willing to spend? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk |

Just wondering if there's any cheap mod to improve it. ..... I know that I can easily change the whole axle with the v2 and have the same result. Just want improvement.

Unfortunately it is the design of the C hubs and knuckles that limit it. Not much can do cheap to overcome that. High clearance knuckles, 8 degree setup, etc. are your best bets. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk |

as stated above, axial cvd axle shafts, axial high clearance knuckles and axial (or strc, etc) c-hubs will get you plenty of steering throw..

Thanks Allanon1965..... love how you answered directly instead of making it sound like it can't be done.

You can obtain more S. throw by utilizing the 8* C.hubs and S.kunckles. Alloy (not plastic) Realize a servo can only arc so far in either direction. Tho' having a TX that allows for S. endpoint adjustments will be helpful. But the front drive dog bones can still be a limiting factor as those can only turn so far before they interfere with themselves. The Axial Universal axle shafts can allow for more steering angle. And some material can be Dremel'd off the universal's to allow for more turning angle. (But too much material removal could weaken the Universal and possibly snap those when under load or throttle. CVD shafts are not the same as Universal's and generally cannot be altered to obtain more steering throw. Another thing some folk do is overdrive the front axle ring/pinion gear so the front tires will spin faster then the rear. This will effectively increase steering's capability with tracking. But having a taller gear in the front axle and slightly lower in the rear axle. Can also cause more drive line wear and bind somewhat on high traction surfaces. ( rock - tarmac ) Another thing is the firmness of the tire foam inserts. Too soft and the tire folds over the wheel's rim. And this tire deflection reduces the tire's ability to track firmly. Realize both the front and rear axles are locked. and so when trying to steer and throttle... It will tend to push the front tires thru the turn rather then bite. There are many more things that can be done... But it becomes more expensive to obtain those final few degrees of S. angle. Be sure your steering linkage clears the servo... as any limitation to those and anything else you attempt will be a waste of time and money. ---------------- I utilize the Axial alloy 8* C.hub/S.knuckles, the Axial Universal axle shafts and the denser CI's DW foam inserts for steering improvement. I chose not to use the OD front axle as I prefer both axles to turn at the same speed. -------------- Dog bone axles Vs Universal axle shafts. Last edited by TacoCrawler; 04-03-2017 at 03:11 PM. |

I have a heavily upgraded wraith and had all the stock parts laying around and finally did the narrow xr mod. Before I did that I had high steer knucks and 8* chubs with cvds. It was better than stock for sure but not as good as my wraith. If your gonna spend money on all the upgrades I would just spend the extra money and go with xr narrow mod and not spend the money twice like I did. |

^^^ That The narrow XR mod is definitely the way to get the best steering out of an SCX10 axle. After seeing how much steering that gives a rig I definitely will be upgrading. I've already done everything short of the XR mod and thought I was happy with the steering. That last 5 or 6 degrees can make a big difference on a truck in competition. |

Beef tubes offers the the standard axial xr unis already machined to the narrowed length. That is what I use are they are pretty strong.

You asked for cheap mods, I wasn't being mysterious, I was seeing how far you were willing g to go. I've done the Vanquish Stage 1 kit with VVDs. It's about as far from cheap as you can get without doing the XR mod with VP parts. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk |

I've actually had (selling them as we speak) loaded wide xr mod axles but I didn't "massage" the universals out of fear of weakening them too much. They got about 50* like that. I'm sure I could get a bit more throw n there but they chattered HARD already. I got a tighter radius using axial high clearance knuckles and axial CVD's with the same OD/UD gearing in both axles (did OD/UD in the xr mod axles as well to keep the comparison even) Full throw I'm getting 51-52* and they chattered less than the Xr mod. Maybe they turned tighter cuz they are a lot more narrow? Not quite sure. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

the stock dogbones will not allow for much improvement with any kit...you need to get rid of those...
