Default Another opinion needed....

Hi all,

I'm looking into my next round of upgrades for the Deadbolt. One I'm looking at is an 8 deg. setup, mainly the Pro from SSD. My question is; is this really needed for a trail truck, or is this more of a luxury.

Thanks for the input
Scott

I have the SSD kit on my Deadbolt and love it! Definitely an improvement on the trail but make sure you get a set of universals to take advantage of the steering angle vs the stock dogbones.

I guess my question would be do you compete?
If you're like me and just tootle around and have fun doing that then I don't see the value in the investment (Other then it looks really wicked).
If you compete, well than it's probably more important to you.
I'm interested in seeing if you notice any real difference if you decide to do it. I too have a Deadbolt that I'm always trying to find something to upgrade!

What kind of "Improvement" did you notice.
I'm not even sure what the exact benefit is!

EDIT: Nevermind! I just did some reading on Zero Ackerman and now I understand.
Changing my answer to "If you can afford it, go for it".
This will be one of those "Later when I have the money" sort of upgrades for me.

Well more steering angle is always an improvement. Allows you to make tighter turns around trees, rocks or other objects. There is no disadvantage IMO to achieving the most steering angle as possible. You can always adjust endpoints on your servo if you feel it's too much angle. My LHS has a trail and I noticed I could get through spots in one go vs having to back up and adjust my angles to make it around and between trees.

Spend 12bucks on Chinese aluminum knuckles and chubs. Grind away where the chub screw touches your knuckle. The grind away a little at the dog bone cup.

You will get more angle for less money. On a trail truck it is more then enough.

If you don't want to do that you can spend $12.00 on Chinese cvd's, and 40 on VP clone chubs and knuckles. For $52.00 your there...

Now more importantly have you changed gears in the front dif? You will crawl better and get a much better turning radius with the overdrive front.

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I'm definitely going to put some weight in the axles first. I'm going to buy a set of OTVDs and stuff them in. I did do a little light grinding and put grub screws in the front. So after the OTVDS go in, I'll re-evaluate.

Where's the best place to find the VP clone chubs and knuckles?
