Default Refreshing the old dingo.

It started life as a dingo kit, then got converted to leaf springs and a d90. I absolutely love this rig, possibly because it was the first scaler me and the boy made.

The d90 body is heavy, like really heavy. It makes for a great trail rig but as a 4.13" tire rig in the rocks it is problematic. Read tips over when it drives over its shadow.

So it's time to do something about it.
Here is how she sits, all dolled up from the Recon G6 in July.

I really didn't want to change the body, but i knew if it was going to get more run time something had to give.

Easy solution, buy another chi-com d90 body for $28.00 and hack it up.

Let's not call it a pickup, the scale nerds will comment on the lack of a rounded cab. Let call it a d90 on a diet.

A little nip and tuck. Some styrene diamond plate and we have a bed.

I could have dropped the bed another 1/2 inch. However i wanted to swap back and forth between the full body and this without relocating anything.

Time to fill and sand.

Took the old gal out for the weekend and was really surprised at the difference the body made.

It was a real pleasure to drive a hard body leaf spring rig that actually had trail and crawling ability. My son took a liking to the new feel and drove it like a champ.

It got driven a little harder then it should have been and we thrashes a set of leaf springs. However i learned a few things about leaf setup that will just make it better.

The plan is to point it out for class 1, with the absolute bare minimum. It wont ever see serious scale comps but will do for the social aspects of local comps.

Lots of work to be done. I need to figure out a cantilever damper system for a little better space management.

So the boss wanted me out of the office for a week for training which gave me some time at night to do some work.

Did some repair work on damage from crawltoberfest. New leaf springs and helpers. The old ones got trashed. Totally the drivers fault, we drove it hard.

I happened to find a lhs with just the supplies i wanted. Whipped up a roll cage for the back and startes on an internal one for the drivers.

Little more work completed. New rear axle shafts are on the way since I snapped one testing out the new leaf springs. For the best the stock ones forced me to remove the tubes to access these dont. That means i can check screw clearance on the leaf and lock outs using a flashlight.
