Default Perkolator's Rigs

Hello again RCC! I've been out of the RC world for a few years, after a couple crotch fruits put a major damper on everything, and now I suppose I'm back! Been so long since running my RCs that the tires on two of my crawlers dry rotted and split - crazy!

Right now I'm tinkering, rebuilding, gathering funds and generally working toward getting my three Axial-based rigs functioning so the kids and I can all crawl together. It's going to be on a tight budget and definitely slow-going since my only time to work on these is after bedtime -- but this time I've got kids giving me the sad face, so maybe I'll actually complete my projects Seeing the RC crawler scene has changed for the better since I've been away and there are many more sweet scaler platforms out there to choose from, yay! But I'm gonna still stick with my old SCX10 setups and rebuild them since that's what I've got already.

So I suppose the best way to revive my old platform is to post in an older section of the forums that I'm guessing isn't frequented much these days, and to start off with a nice teaser pic of something custom I've been working on...

I started by building a positive that I could produce a mold from. Yes it's missing details and full of blemishes here and there, but it was close enough to get me started. This was my first time doing this type of stuff and now that I've done it, I can safely say I can always make a new, better mold at another time - which is likely what I'll do when I try to attempt an accurate scaler later down the road.

Then I covered it in silicone for the detailed inner mold:

Next I made a mother mold from fiberglass to make it rigid. Here it is upside down:

After slush-casting some plastic resin inside and letting it cure, the positive is ready to come out:

I pretty much went toward a 1/10 scale, based off what I measured on my 1:1 Cruiser. Here it is next to a Hilux/Mojave body to give an idea of the final size:

Got the body whittled down a tad so it sat better on the chassis. Mocked it up with these rotted out KM2s which are the smallest tires I own - I think it would look fantastic with some small meats in the scale version

Here is the body mocked on my Hilux's chassis without adjusting anything, like wheelbase etc. I wanna say this wheelbase is under 12"

I'm planning to turn one into a "wroncho" build, so here is what it looks like on AR60/2.2 Rok Lox with ~13.5"WB

I did another casting and goofed it up, made it WAY WAY too thick - but I think it worked out because now I can remove all the glass and still retain strength at the pillars.
Man, I need to order some electronics because this is freaking exciting now!

That’s really cool! Talented person to get it like that on your first attempt. Well done.
