That's pretty cool and it looks very capable! How did you do the flag on the hood?

Pinewood derby decal, then scrubbed the piss out of it.
Thanks, and yes it is a capable rig, or at least it was with a g6 lexan body. It was literally a point and climb rig that even an 8 year old could drive. It actually frustrates me sometimes when he eases up a line that my "upgraded" rigs struggle with.

Hopefully the hard body doesn't take to much away.

Pinewood derby decal is a great idea, the flag really sets it off! What a cool build.

Thanks I had a lot of fun with this one. Posting pictures was an afterthought.

I did some serious chopping of the d90 body and managed to get it back together. Its funny I was so proud of myself, sanded and filled a lot, primed and painted it blue. Wet sanded it and repainted it until is was nice and smooth and glossy.

Then the flag colors didn't work with the blue and the boy really wanted the flag. So I scuffed the best paint job I ever did, primed it then painted it matte red. The scuffed the hell out of it to make the grey and blue come through.

I also somehow managed to take 4 pieces of tube and make them into one. Not the prettiest, but I learned how to make a jig to hold everything that doesn't suck away the heat. So next one will be cleaner.

Bonus the boy did the interior, since it needed to be faded he painted this light grey then used red sharpie to give it some color. The nonuniform color from the marker really looks like old faded leather.

We do a little scale comping here and there, and the last couple where built for scale points. Sorrca being as f'ed as they are this year changing rules and then still being in the process of clarifying them I basically said screw building for comps. Totally turned us off. Fortunately we have some other options for social crawling.

I sat with the boy and he told me what he wanted. And that is exactly what we built.

Front and rear winch.
Weather wood flatbed
A working radio for trail side tunes
Hard body pickup truck
rollcage
pinched and bobbed so he can run is madbeasts( going to widen it 2-3mm using hex's) it needs ever so slight of clearance at max flex.
Red and blue paint
American flag.
and(get ready for it) he doesn't want any stickers on it.

Mechanically he bought a HW1080 for it and we are pulling the 45t motor and putting in a 35t, maybe a regear, for just a little more wheel speed.

I managed to check all the boxes and the truck is something he loves and I am actually a little jealous of him. I keep teasing him that I'm keeping it

What's that part used at the rear of the flat bed please?
Nice build, looking at something similar for my son as well

if you want I will take some picture for you and post some of the build pictures.

But basically I took styrene then cut a flat sheet the shape of the bed. The using rectangular styrene I outlined the bed, then added some cross bracing. I took note of the chassis position, and the bed lays directly on it.

The front most frame of the bed is glued, tapped and screwed in the cab section. There is also two screws going through the bed directly into the cross brace on the chassis just in front of the shock hoops.

The deck itself is covered with wood strips, which are just for show.
