Default motor and gearing

I was just recently given a used jeep recon g6 falken tire edition SCX10. it currently has a 55t motor in it and that is just to slow for me. what is a good size motor turn and pinion and spur heat size to run in this truck? I will mostly just be doing some basic trail riding and running around in the yard here in florida.i dont want this to be a fast race truck but still want it to be fast enough to be fun playing in the yard and open fields or maybe a trail ride or something. so any help on what turn motor to run and what size pinion and spur to run will be awesome. thanks everyone in advance for the help.

55t is a tad slow but can be worked with by swapping pinion and spur gears. Ideally around 5:1 ratio pinion to spur but if no good get that gap smaller or try a 27t or 35t motor

I was thinking about going to a 27t motor
what would be the ideal pi in and spur tooth size for a 27t motor?

Depends on tire size....

I run stock 13/56 gearing with 4.75' tires on my wife's scx10 on 3s lipos and a 35t motor. She finds it fast enough to climb looses sandy hills but not uncontrolled. Plenty of low speed resolution.... The esc has a lot to do with the bottom end resolution.

The Falken Jeeps had 32P gears I believe so I would run a 10T pinion with a 27T motor on 3S.

I find a motor fast enough to get to 6-8mph when geared 40-60:1 on 3S is good for all situations. Pretty much all my scale trucks, regardless of brand, fall somewhere around that range.

yes, it is 32p gears. I run only 2s lipo because that's what i run in all my trucks i have. i am running the wheels and tires from the wraith jeep, the 2.2 beadlocks. I think I'm going to go with the 27t motor. with the 32p gears. so with that setup with only a 2s lipo, what should I run for a pinion and spur size? thanks again for all the helpful input.

What size spur do you already have?

Ah! Find that out then grab some pinion choices as they're a cheap option to tailor what you want.

With that big of a tire I would be running 60:1

A gearing chart for smaller tires...

ok so my setup right now is: 55T motor, 56t spur, 13t pinion. wanting to go to a 27T motor.

I personally would start with an 10t pinion and go from there. It's only 42:1 so you might be making your motor hot and reducing run time by turning amps into heat getting those big tires rolling.

I'd agree with lonelycreeper and try a 10t to start off with. 13t might stress the motor / ESC....
