| best brushed motor brand?
so I'm buying a new 27t brushed motor for my scx10 g6. what is the best recommended brand to go with? I was thinking about sticking with axial but I like the Holmes hobby motor and the Novak motors as well. what are your thoughts on these motors and others?

Holmes Hobbies is my favorite, Novak isnt something I'm familiar with but I'm under the assumption that they are pretty behind in the crawler market and a bit old on tech but I dont have first hand experience. Axial motor isnt so enticing for me, nothing wrong with them but theres also nothing special about them, if you just need more wheel speed keep the stock Axial motor and gear up. If you go for Holmes keep in mind that some of his motors are 5 slot which means that comparing motors by the number of turns need some adjusting. Most all other brushed motor are 3 slot so keep in mind that a normal 27T motor would be a similar speed to a 13T Holmes motor. Also if you go the Holmes route consider the Crawlmaster motors (they're the 5 slots) they are what he does best, his other motors are fine but the Crawlmasters are truly special. EDIT: I just read up a bit on Novak and they closed their doors a few years ago so what you see available is just old stock I guess Last edited by HumboldtEF; 01-04-2019 at 07:40 PM. |

Novak is dead. They went out of business a year or two ago. Very sad for us old schoolers. Holmes is good as is Team Brood. There is no best - just best for your application. Axial motors aren't great though so I'd stay away from those. |

It may not be considered the BEST, but my $10 RC4WD brushed motor has been GREAT to me. I've had the truck floating in water a few times now and it still runs great.

As Jato said. Holmes and Team Brood. Obviously there are a range of motors from cheap disposable machine wound to expensive rebuildable hand wound and everything in between. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

the stock 550 reverse rotation motor that came on my trx4 has never failed me. i have had it submerged in mud and it rolled over into a pool once but it never died...

I've run Holmes' brushed motors for over a decade and don't plan on changing any time soon. I have lots of experienced crawling buddies that love Brood's brushed motors. You really can't go wrong with either one they both cater to crawling customers with lots of options. I've been running 13 -16 turn brushed motors in my four crawlers. Low speed control is critical in scale rock crawling but not as much in trail running however a higher wind 27-35 is probably the better choice if you like doing both.

Never had any problems with the stock Traxxas 21T Titan. Geared right, it is excellent for low speed crawl control and torque, at least for my needs.

Holmes brushed motors and their Torquemaster BR-XL brushed ESC combo is what I use in all of my crawlers. I literally have no reason to look at another brand.....

My go-to is a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport 550 15T. Combined with a Hobbywing 1080 ESC and 3S, I can run for hours with zero overheating, only ever getting a little warm on the hottest days of summer. Plenty of torque and wheel speed, particularly if you're like me and you like a slow, technical crawl as you and your buddies hike and shoot the shiz. They work fantastically and manage heat well even slogging a heavy rig like a scaled-out TF2 up the rocks and they don't seem to care at all about getting submarined in fresh water.
