OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

I thought I would start a fresh thread for this, the old one is messy, with weird posts and lots of photos/information missing, since I have decided to give the truck a good rebuild, I thought a fresh thread was in order too.

I'll include a few photos of the original truck and a few random shots that were on the old thread but this will mostly be progress from now on.

So, below are some photos from how it started out life and some progress shots of it over time.

And how it's sat right now, I have put some SSD D60 axle housings on her, with fresh Axial HD gears and Overdrive in the front, first time trying that so it hopefully improves things.
New chassis rails, new skid, rebuilt transmission with Axial HD gears.
Vanquish stage one, SSD links all round.
I am also doing a new body for it, while it's only lexan, I still want to do a good job of it, so it's a work in progress.
Hope you like so far.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Switched over to 32dp gearing, 58t spur, 10t pinion, should be good for low control on 3s.

SSD driveshafts, SSD shocks fitted.

I need to find another chassis brace or two, just bodged this (neatly) for now, but they are plastic, I want all alloy for the chassis to make it as rigid as possible, currently searching eBay for those.

This is how she sits right now.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Decided instead of trying to find a shorter top shaft, to just cut it down, works well for body clearance, it now has a good cm*or so of clearance, before it was about 2mm.

Very happy with the progress on this and overall happy with how the chassis layout looks.

Moved the CoG way down, the battery is lower and closer to the front now, the ESC is evening out the weight distribution, the RX box and ESC are also now much lower, the wires are neatened up, everything is now well below the tops of the shock towers.

Hopefully everything stays put, now to finally decide on a body colour and figure out a mounting system.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Making a little more progress, some days off work and rain has meant I have some free time.

This is the first time I've made anything like this and it's still early stages, but the bed overall will be quite minimalistic, so be kind lol.

Not sure if I will do any actual sides on the bed or maybe just a small bead around the edge.

Just the initial tabs.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...7b04f5a2_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e4c4c63e_b.jpg

Basic layout.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e618d8fb_b.jpg

To my surprise I actually got these lined up both sides perfectly first time, not often my measurements are 100% lol.

You'll also notice the cab*actually slides into the bed, originally I was going to have a tilting bed, but it's really no use tilting anyway so this way made much more sense and solved my problem of 'locking' the cab at a certain height, with some Velcro on the front, I think that should work best for quick battery changes and such.

I could just bolt the cab to the bed now, but I don't want to have to take out all these bolts from the bed either, so overall I think this way works well.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a54d17dd_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...328b0bee_b.jpg

I am also still undecided on colour, I did think I was going blue for the cab, so I ordered some blue beadlock rings and blue scale locking hubs, but like a fool I now think I just want it red, I already have lots of red to hand and although it won't be a 100% match, it will at least blend with the Vanquish stage one kit.

Might still put the blue bits on though, just to see how it all blends together.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Hurrah, we have progress!

Just need to figure out where to run the 'hoses' now from the rad, I would also like some sponsor stickers, but struggling to find anything suitable and in the right size, so we'll come back to that.

And who doesn't love a bit of scale bolt goodness.

Looking good OHO.

Rad hoses would go under the cab and towards the front on a 1:1 if the motor was still up front....

Yep, that's what I am aiming for, but don't know exactly where to put them threw at.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Well some more progress :D

Rad fully finished, 'hoses' routed, not the most creative routing, but quite realistic and made the most sense for keeping bed space free.

Little overview, very happy with it for my first attempt.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...fcf00074_b.jpg

Yellow lenses definitely needed!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b700588a_b.jpg

Always helps to outline what you're cutting out from the outside and use a lightbox, my paint jobs would be even worse without those.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2f248072_b.jpg

This tool from SSD is so neat!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...599db4e6_b.jpg

New beadlock rings and scale hubs on.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c364a577_b.jpg

Some colour on the body, I am so glad I did indeed decide with the red/blue theme, it would have been too much blue.

Overview shots, definitely making progress, let me know what you think so far? :)

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Fairly small update, custom rear bumper is on and looks great in my opinion, exactly what I wanted.

I've now dropped the body a bit too, it hides the esc/battery trays better.

I also went a bit brave and chopped the fenders/steps off a bit too, felt like doing this from the day I opened the bodyshell package but finally done it, I was going to go fully chopped, but then decided I'd like some lights, so needs must and some of them has to stay.

But now it's looking more like a proper rock truck, I am questioning the use of the plate on the rear, would it really be road registered... Nope, so might remove that and put a nice lightbar across the rear instead.

You should totally do it!
This rig wasn't getting used all that much either, in fact I was going to retire it, I even bought a UMG10, then just had a change of heart, although a lot of this is new and not from the old rig, it still feels the same to me.

Yeah, I think I will! This will give me something to work on this winter. It already has a fairly new set of SSD D60 axles under it.

Thanks for giving me that little nudge I needed to get it off the shelf and back out on the trails![emoji6]

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Well I said I wasn't going to use it until I'd fnished it but I couldn't resist on my day off work yesterday so gave it a little maiden run.

Main changes made over the old set up are heavier axles, better shocks and OD in the front and man what a massive difference it makes.

I now sort of regret putting fragile stuff on the bed because if I used this rig to it's full potential it would do just about anything.

There's one particular line none of my previous rigs have ever been able to get up, even the 2.2 stuff and this thing got up it yesterday, super happy.

Considering buying another bodyshell now, something as light as possible and something I am not too bothered about rolling over onto and keeping this set up for shelf queen duties and light trail runs, but I am still unsure.

This has definitely given me a bit of enthusiasm to get it finished off as well though.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Small update, nothing too spectacular, fitted a nicer bumper, but I am having trouble finding one I actually like, they either sit too far forwards, like the one above, or like the one below, they are a tad on the small side.

Suppose the best option is to buy the Wertymade Power wagon specific bumper, with that being said, I have already damaged the bed and body in a roll over, so I am seriously considering buying a Pro-line Hilux SR5 body for this now, to keep the weight down and lower as possible.

And maybe put this on a spare chassis and just have it as a shelf queen... Or maybe sell it, I am undecided.

Anyway for now, here's a few pictures from the last run out, I am going to be uploading some footage very soon, just been busy with work and no time to edit.

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

Some photos from a recent trail and crawl at a new location, I have found my body is getting caught on a lot of stuff and my bed has taken some quite severe damage, mostly to where the body sits in the slots of the bed.

My options moving forward are to get a new body (looking at the SR5 Hilux) to save this one from being totally destroyed... Drive the truck more gently, which kinda goes against setting up such a well performing chassis in the first place or just remove the 'bed' as it is and have a very basic set up just to hide some stuff, I'm still undecided on what to do.

Myself, my Dad, my nephew and brother-in-law, really good day was had, hope you enjoy the pictures.

My SSD front bumper is well scratched up now!

So I kept damaging the mounts sadly and the bottom of the body, plus it bounced around a bit and I desperately don't want to add body posts and clips.

So I've now added the proper bed to the truck.

Chopped the arches to suit.

Inner fenders still to be added.

Going to add a few scale items to the bed I think.

Interior is also now in, with a driver coming soon, more exterior details to come too.

I can now swap between the full bed and my custom bed relatively easily.

She is also now named.

Little update on my truck.
New spot lights fitted after the others died, decided to go different, because I am always changing my rigs, so the new lights are orange.
Also added some warm white lights inside the cab, so the interior and driver are now all lit up.
Liking it overall.

Some more progress, more lighting added, more body details with fire extinguisher and jerry can, plus a rear license plate, she's now got a magazine, bottle of whisky, her gun and some smokes, she seems happy!

Added the externally mounted battery, made the decision to lose a little bit of performance in order to mount the body and not have to remove it again, I think it's worked pretty good, as a faux toolbox, more details to do yet though.

Small lightbar on top, four reasons for this, I prefer the look of a small one, anything bigger was a bit too wide for the curve of the body, it's less weight up top and it's ridiculously bright anyway.

I've also made some head light guards, only for looks, I know if they take a hard hit they will probably break.

Lemme know what you think so far!

Thanks a lot man, I am loving it
I got the cigarette packet from a friends shop here in the UK.
But their is a seller I have saved on eBay, he's in Slovakia, but his postage times are pretty good, to the UK at least, it's around 3-4 days.
He sells some pretty cool stuff, he actually did me a custom Playboy too, to match the date my Bronco body was made.

Good job, the headlamp protectors give it a strong, working truck look."Pulgares hacia arriba"

Well that was a bright idea!

Now have mega bright interior lighting, rock lights and lightbar.

Normal running lights are on all the time now, flick of a switch and night turns to day lol!

Super happy, all home made, for way way less than any RC light kit.

She has no excuse for not going out in the evening now!

Re: OHOs OG SCX10 gets rebuilt.

I have now changed from Velcro holding the body on to magnets.

So far I am finding the magnets better, they have a more positive feel when taking the body off and putting it back on, they also 'auto-locate' the body to the exact same position everytime, which is a big benefit over Velcro.

They also require no 'pressing' when you put the body on, just drop it on and it's secure.

Currently using some 1kg pull on each post, feels like I could have used about 0.6-0.7kg, the full 1kg is a little much, so I have simply added some Gorilla tape over the magnets to create a little gap, it's worked well and feels perfect.

Here's some photos from our most recent outing, was hoping it would be four trucks but my little nephew isn't too well so he gave it a miss.

The new 1500mah 3s packs lasted really well though, I took four with me, only needed two of them, got about 1 1/2 hours from each just trailing, more than I expected.

Some of you will also recognise the blue Jeep body, currently residing on my Dads SCX10ii, he borrowed it after selling his Deadbolt body, he's got a Power Wagon to do, but it wasn't finished in time for the run.
