Default My sons SCX10 Deadbolt

So, back on Christmas or 2014, my son received a Axial SCX10 Deadbolt from Santa. He had many toy grade RC’s in the first 6 years of his life and was totally stoked when he opened the Deadbolt.

Almost immediately, I installed Axial aluminum links. He has driven it around for the last 5 years and not really broken much. The Y Link kept popping off the front, so I changed that up to a straight 4 link..

Recently, over the last few months, he started getting real into it again. I relocated the battery to between the front shocks. I honestly don’t really like it there a just bought a new tray that will place it across the truck, behind the front shock towers. Since he was really digging it again, I bought him some new beadlock wheels and new tires. Inexpensive Amazon stuff, but they fit well and are pretty soft, and the most important part, he loves them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WJ...b_b_asin_title

One thing he recently did, was broke the front bumper completely off the rig. I did a temporary repair, just to get the bumper back on. Found a decent one on Thingiverse today and decided to have Jawstec print it for me (him).

He has been talking about wanting a new body and I scored a decent silver Raptor body on eBay today, hoping he likes it.

Well, unfortunately, I’m away from the house for a bit, so no pics at the moment, but I’ll upload some when I get home.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has helped me out on this adventure.

I plan to upgrade his electronics when I get home this time I think.

I have a new HW 1080 ESC sitting on the shelf, as well as a few Holmes motors to choose from.
I think I have a rebuilt 16T Crawlmaster Pro I bought from a member on here a few years ago, plus a 40T TorqueMaster and 45T TorqueMaster (bought back in 2014 and still unused...)

I'll probably set him up with the CrawlMaster Pro, should be a pretty darn good motor.

Probably made a mistake buying the 40 and 45 turn motors...

Then top him off with a new transmitter / Receiver and he should be good to go for awhile.

Some pictures my son sent me.

Mostly stock. Aluminum Links, Hobbypark Beadlock's and Hyrax Clones.
One thing I do see in the pictures is that the lock nut is about to fall off of one of his lower link axle mounts...

Thanks man, he has really enjoyed it so far. For the next round of upgrades, I think I am going to hand him the tools and just be there for support. Probably start with the battery relocation tray.

One thing I do just for safety sake, I only let him use NiMH or NiCd batteries. He is not allowed to mess with my LiPo's. I think I am actually going to change out all my connectors to the XT60 and let him use the "Deans" connectors on his stuff.

Well, we finally took some time and worked on his Deadbolt the other night.

We got the new battery tray installed, relocated the receiver box and ESC to the front, as well as installed a new front bumper. The bumper is a super flimsy Chinese special. He likes it, but it’s way too big fo my liking...

Looking good man! You can slam that thing a little lower by trimming off under the doors. I love my deadbolt! I put on scalerfab sliders and rear bumper, ssd front bumper, ssd high clearance steering (drag link and knuckles and chubs) running a 1080 and holmes 27T trailmaster sport.

SCX10 Deadbolt is great. Check out the Harley Deadbolt budget build on youtube if you want a ton of ideas. I am doing a refresh on my OG SCX10 rigs currently. Looking to get my hands on some new axles off the scx103 or trx4.

I have a 1080 sitting here to drop in and am considering the 13T Crawlmaster Sport for it as well.

I was actually watching that channel at lunch today, lots of great ideas.

We are actually in the process of a little updating on his rig. He wanted a Honcho style body, so I found a Honcho Cage, but it was attached to a Gmade BOM truck cab. It actually looks pretty nice and will be a good change of pace for him. As time permits, I have been working on a body hinge mount and the front will be on magnets. A little trimming, creative mounting and she'll be ready to roll (literally...) again.

Well, another small update. I was able to get the hinge mount very close to finished. Still need to finish up the actual pin.

I started the magnet mount for the front end.

Due to the added height of the magnets and the backer on the body, I need to drill more holes in the posts to lower the front back down a bit.

I've had friends who have had hinged bodies and they are very convenient out on the trail. Plus it jus occurred to me that if you have lights you can run the wiring right around the hinge point so that you never have to bother with unplugging wires every time you take the body off which is seriously annoying imo. Looking good!

I run my Scx10II Honcho with a hinge out back too...Super convenient for swapping batteries on the trail. I did mine a bit differently, but got the same results.

My bracket, and I cut thetubing to insert the screws.

Thanks fellas.

Nice job on your hinge setup. I need to make some changes to the frame mount, but it’ll work for now.

I was able to take some time yesterday at lunch and finished the front magnet mount, as well as the rear hinge.
Kinda funny, but the actual hinge pin is a plastic piece from one of the parts trees that came with the used body.
It's decently stout, but also has a little flex to it.

It turned out pretty decent for my first attempt.

Dropped in a 2s Lipo and let'er eat. He had a blast bashing around in the snow and climbing the snow berm in our front yard. This was also the first time I let him run a Lipo in his truck.
