Default L.C. Rebuild of an old Favorite

I dug this rig out of storage after my nephew declared an interest in crawlers. This is my original Scx10 mostly stock 12" wheelbase, UD gears out back with aluminum High clearance links, The front is all stock, including the plastic links for steering and aluminum links up front. I think I have a plastic gear in the all stock trans and 32p spur/pinion.

My Nephew wanted a Jeep, with big tires. So the only cash outlay so far is for the $46 Proline 08 Jeep Jk 2 door body. It is similar in scale to my Ultimate Adventuring Bronco. Tires are going to be my old 2.2 G8 Super Swamper Tsl's @5.4" tall. Lets see how long that gear lasts lol. Upgrades will come as needed.

Mockup...

Sorry about the blurry pictures.... future pics will be better.

Update!

Yesterday, my nephew and I shortened the frame rails, and got the body mounted, extending the front body posts, and hinging the rear.

Today we threw the first color on before a storm ran through and it got cold.

Its not a perfect paint job, but it will work for an 11 year olds first crawler!

It's nice to see I'm not the only one still tinkering these old beasts, your nephew should be thrilled

He is! I have never seen him so excited, and hes helping turn wrenches on it too!

I am not sure about gearing though, So we are planning a test run for tuesday and we will see how the motor temps are....

Shes running a Ud out back and stock gearing everywhere else... I assume we will have to gear down the motor pinion, as 13/56 is probably too high.

I'm betting those trans. gears will be the first to go with the UD out back but oh well metal is relatively cheap and it will give him something else to learn about the truck. I just posted up yesterday about my two, worked on them the last two days.

It's a toss up to me.... Old Integy 35t or trans gears..... If i gear it down, (I have the slipper I need to convert from 32p to 48p) Then it will definately be the trans gears.

Well the motor ran nice and cool on 2s, gearing was a little faster than my Bronco on 3s. She is super light so that really helps I think. We ran a 4000mah pack through her climbing up, and down and over and around out "hill".

Got really muddy and now guess who gets to clean them up?

Hooked is an understatement... He said he likes Crawling/Trailing better than the go fast trucks. He was also posing his truck to take pictures after the run. Now to get his step dad in!

I've found that about 75% of the people that check out my trucks and drive one of them end up getting one, then another lol

I have a similar experience, except for funding lol. When people hear how expensive the trucks are they usually write them off. However I often sell for cheaper than I should, just to get them in! Then its all downhill for them.

My nephew and I ran for three hours today, had to swap transmissions due to.... You guessed it, A stripped middle gear in the trnsmission!

I threw in a Scx10II grey trans in the place of the old school black 3 gear.

Did some digging!

flexin!

Blew up the front shaft!

The hole is supposed to be tiny, and closed!

The JK is running awesome, just the big tires are putting stress on the old parts they never got before.

Thanks Downfall!

I put Incision gears in the trans and swapped the original trans back in. I also found a good driveshaft in my spare parts bin and got that installed as well.

She is ready for the next adventure!

The next adventure came!

I took my Nephew out for a short trail run today.... His first, he loved it! Burned through 5000mah each.

Spot the creature....

At the peak...

And the decent...

And the hill we conquered!
