Axial 3 Gear Transmission Gearing????
 

Hey guys! I installed some Trx-4 portal axles under my SCX10 Dingo. The only issue I'm having is it's extremely slow. Before the axle swap it had a 55t 540 and would do about 8mph with stock 20t pinion and 87t spur. Now it will only do about 4mph with 21t 550 with the same pinion/spur. I was hoping for at least 6mph.

I need to buy a set of gears for inside the trans. Because the stock plastic ones are making allot of noise since doing the mirror mod and the added torque. I'd like to go to metal gears. Probably the vanquish set. Do they make a faster gear for the 3 gear trans? Or should I just go to a 12t motor to get some more wheel speed?

I’m not aware of different ratio gears, it’s about 2.6:1 where the traxxas is like 2:1, or 2.2:1. You should be able to run a smaller spur/pinion combo to bring it back

SSD makes a 3 gear transmission kit that is 1.8:1, but it requires a different case to fit the gears (included in the kit.) Some of the 2 speeds (at least RC4WD and SSD) have a 2nd gear that's higher than 2.6

Not sure how big a pinion the gear cover fits over, but ratio wise going 30/80 with the pinion and sour will get you to about your 6mph goal.
Otherwise your looking at the ssd high ratio trans kit, which isn't a bad deal, especially if you already have to buy steel internal gears already.

I have been looking at this for one of my trucks. Everything that I have read says 32p gears with a 50t spur and a 20 or 21t pinion, or a 52t spur with a 20t pinion.

Back in the day, I ran 26/80, compared to the stock 14/87... Huge jump in gearing. coupled with 3s and a 27t motor, you should be close to your target of 6mph.

Thank you guys for the info. I have been doing a bunch of research. I have found that the fastest RPM spur/pinion will be a 50t/21t 32p. So I'm going to try to pick them up and see what it does. Have a new trans case and the vanquish gear set ready to go in have been waiting to figure out what to do about the speed before taking the trans out again. Thank you guys again!!!!!
