Default Ax30464

Guys does anyone know what size piano wire I need to replace the stock ax30464 universal pin please ? I've got my son's scx10 stripped down waiting for the replacement Universal's and wanted to replace the pin straightaway so want to get the piano wire on order too

I've got a spare hex pin I could use but that'll be the same as stock and I read the piano wire upgrade is best as the stock pins just break

Measure the hex pin and that’ll tell you what piano wire you need.

Are they UNI's or CVD's? I have sucessfully used .064 piano wire in Axial cvd's and MIP cvd's then immediately broke the joint where it narrows. Big horsepower,(3000kv 4pole 550) big tires (5.4" TSL's) and too much steering (SSD c hubs and knuckles) ... Not a good combo for longevity. Universals(UNI's) are much better in the angle department thus eliminating one of the causes of breakage.

The rig...

They are ax10 scorpion Universal's. Only option left for me to get really. My son has had the locked up rc otvd Universal's for the last 5 years and they were great but finally given up and they don't make the rebuild kits anymore.
It's a stock ISH scx10 with 1.9s and a 35t brushed motor set up for trailing so nothing harsh.
Just wanted to do the mod before I install them really. Plus I'm interested to see how the piano wires lasts so I could use same on my other original scx10s

ya the pins arent the week point the joint is just to small the dog bones are alot stronger but no steering angle
ether cut your losses on those axles and upgrade to 10.2 axles or do the narrow xr mod

I've bought these ones now so wil try the piano wire but yes I agree will have to upgrade in the future. Reluctant to tho as we've had these axles for so long and they are great !

the og scx10 axles are awsome once you get past the steering joint issues i have 2 projects i still plan on using those axles on

both will ether be narrow xrmods or dog bones cause steering angle wont be a issue on those projects

but that sead the 10.2 have alot more parts support and there alot stronger than the original scx10 parts

the gears can be a bit finniky to get to mesh right but once you got then dialed in there good to go

I've heard of people cutting up titanium drill bits for pins. Haven't heard of piano wire. What's the idea behind that?... they bend instead of break?

Piano wire is typically spring steel, so it gives a little and is also much less brittle than the stock pins.
