Noticed in some of the pics of the rear it looks like you added styrene on the inside ? Is that to stiffen up the rear end since the tailgate was removed ?

There's the pic you wanted. For some reason, there's no need to contour the front, it doesn't hit the body posts. Two zip-ties at the rear was all I needed. Forgive the filthy truck, it's been used a bunch lately. No styrene was used to fix the body. A little velcro along the bottom where it meets the bumper and that's it. The Honcho cage gives it plenty of strength.

Ok thanks I've been looking at where the interior should be and it wasn't anywhere near the body posts was thinking of adding some scraps from cutting out the body to make it reach. This is one of the pics I was talking about. Looks like a plate was added in the window area and with the screws on the outside but I guess not. Thanks again for answering my questions. |

Yeah after you said there wasn't any styrene in there I looked again and figured it was the window. Thanks again.

Minor update today, put the Atlas transfer case from Vanquish in this old XJ. Smooth, easy replacement. Nice little bit of kit. I'd like to note that this truck is as smooth as the day I put it together. All the driving, hard driving that is, goofing around, submerging past the axles has done zero harm to any of the internals. Rock on!

I spent a few hours over the last couple of days doing my damndest to destroy these new Vanquish axle shafts. Binding up where I could (I suck at driving so that happens a lot), smashing repeatedly into rocks, full throttle turns to full lock whilst in the rocks, just general... BASHING. Couldn't do any damage. Shafts are pristine with no slop. An excellent replacement to stock. |

With my rusted out Yota 10.2, I find that less articulation is your friend....I've got internal and external limiters in the stock kit Icon shocks and this is definitely one of my best crawlers hand down!!!!

| Re: Imthatguy builds an SCX10 II I'm with you Bill. Originally I was limiting travel as well, but wanted to give Droop a try. And by proxy, travel is limited by these shorter shocks. Flex is the most overrated nonsense in scale crawling. Yes, I said it.

Well, after a long year of enjoying and abusing this truck, it was time to prepare it for another trip to California for this year's AxialFest! I started by looking on what the truck had become. Still quite a good looking truck, but it was time for something new! I tore down and cleaned everything. Removed all the electronics, cleaned all the bits, re-greased and lubed up all the moving parts. Surprisingly, not all the bad, all things considered. Now that that's done, on to the good stuff. Ah, classic T-Runner wheels from RC4WD and new rubber from Pro-Line. Probably looks best with the new 4Runner body that Pro-Line just released. Much thanks to them for sending one my way! I ran out of Parma FasMask, so off to my local static model hobby shop for some new, much betterer stuff. It's more expensive, but works so much better. It's also blue, so it's waterproof. ;) As per usual, I'm going for as much paint as possible without using stickers. Tekin is supplying the power to this truck, in the form of their new RX4 and a yet un-nameable motor choice. Ty's sending it out this week. So, since they're helping me out, I figured it'd be nice to show off their logo on the truck. After much cutting, trimming, spraying, cutting, then trimming, then spraying again, here's the final result of the paint. I'm pretty chuffed. It was fun to take what was a Jeepspeed and make it into a Toyospeed. Using the Honcho cage again was cool, as well as the existing interior from last year. Note that the mirrors don't come with the body (those I stoile from an RTR XJ body I had lying around). Nice to be able to recycle. Here's a couple detail shots on the paintwork. There's a few more elements coming for the build that are in transit, but it should finish out the look quite nicely. Thanks for following along! |
