Default BowHouse RC Forward Mount Tranmission Cradle

BowHouse RC has just released our SCX10 II Forward Mount Transmission Cradle to allow you to flip your transmission and transfer case around. After the flip, you will still be able to use a large pack (up to 5200 mAh 3S Lipo) and can keep the stock sliders and receiver box intact. Please note that, for now, you will lose the stock mounting position and guides for a servo winch.

Here's the link to our SCX10 II collection on our Shapeways store:
https://www.shapeways.com/designer/b...-ii-collection

Here are a couple of pictures of the cradle in both final prototype (shiny) and production versions (matte):

UPDATE ON 7/19:
We have also released a battery tray (short and long version, with and without integrated servo mount). Here's a prototype of the long version with integrated servo mount:

Size: 82.9 KB

Here are production long and short versions without the integrated servo mount:

Size: 103.4 KB

Name: DSC01057.jpg
Views: 5414
Size: 57.7 KB

The versions without integrated servo mount require using the stock servo bracket:

Size: 77.8 KB

Here is what the long battery tray looks like installed:

Size: 125.8 KB

Name: DSC01075.jpg
Views: 5434
Size: 83.7 KB

We also now have a spacer so that you don't have to modify the stock receiver box if you want to keep using it:
Name: DSC01081.jpg
Views: 5442
Size: 69.5 KB

The spacer installs between the side plate and the chassis rail:
Name: DSC01083.jpg
Views: 5430
Size: 112.3 KB

After installing the spacers, you can still use the stock hardware or switch to screws that are 2mm longer to reattach the side plate and upper links. After installing the spacer, there's plenty of clearance between the motor plate/tranny and receiver box:
Name: DSC01084.jpg
Views: 5521
Size: 116.2 KB

Installation is simple. Install the BowHouse RC spacer or 2mm spacers that you supply between the left side plate and the chassis. Then, flip the skid around 180 degrees and use the cradle to attach the transmission to the chassis at the factory mounting points built into the motor plate:

Size: 118.8 KB

Size: 99.6 KB

Name: DSC06066.jpg
Views: 8104
Size: 87.4 KB

Driveshaft lengths need to be adjusted (front gets longer, rear gets shorter) and can be done using kit parts with no cutting:
Name: IMG_6651.jpg
Views: 5668
Size: 130.0 KB

In front, I used AX31114 5 and 7 for the female ends and a male middle piece that had a part number 3 with no tree number in my kit. In the back, I used AX31114 5 and 6 for the female ends and the male middle piece from the front (AX 31397).

For posterity's sake, below are the original mounting instructions (to which some folks commented) before we introduced the battery tray and side plate spacers ==>

To mount it, all you need to do is notch the receiver box like this:
Name: DSC06068.jpg
Views: 6717
Size: 78.1 KB

Trim the battery tray like this:
Name: DSC06057.jpg
Views: 6952
Size: 89.5 KB

Name: DSC06056.jpg
Views: 6661
Size: 84.3 KB

There still plenty of room for a 3500 mAh 3S pack (Helios RC pack shown):
Name: DSC06059.jpg
Views: 6601
Size: 94.0 KB

Name: DSC06058.jpg
Views: 6872
Size: 114.7 KB

And if you cut the front plate of the battery tray, you'll be able to fit an even longer stick pack.

Please note that some of the above photos are of final prototypes (easy to distinguish by their shiny appearance). Production versions are all printed on SLS printers through Shapeways for smoother surface texture and greater durability.

Our 1800, 2200, 3000, and 3500 (all 3s) will fit the trimmed tray shown above. The 1800 4s packs fit very nice too. That's what I'll be running in that build. It's an 1100kv (or maybe 1000kv) motor, so needs the extra voltage. As Holmes says, "volt up, gear down"!

Had to fit a fullsize pack for the general customer. Requiring hobby shops to carry odd size packs specifically for a smaller battery tray isn't ideal.

Thanks for the compliment! This really is a great kit. I enjoyed the build and have had a blast running it. As I've said early and often, you guys clearly put a ton of thought into this, and it shows. Not that it will stop us from tinkering, because, well, messing with a good thing is half the fun of this hobby.

As for that full sized stick pack, I'm holding out hope that the battery tray Nick and I are working on (okay...more accurately, that Nick is doing all the hard work on) will still allow us to fit a 5200 mAh 3S pack. We'll know very soon, so fingers crossed...

Buy a few and give them to friends and family That makes shipping per cradle less.

Frickin sweet bud!!! That's how it should have come from the factory and the trimmed down battery tray is still big enough to hold proper sized battery. Crawls so much better with the smaller packs, just buy a couple....I do!

Thanks man! That compliment means a ton. I've said it a few times already, the truck is great and going to be a very successful platform for many years.

So, David left me alone for a few hours and the full size battery tray is done and fits perfect. Even fits those unruly hard packs. The 3s 5200mAh and 2s 8000mAh fit perfect.

I'll be running 4s in my personal rig though

You just saved your job...for now. If you didn't fix that debacle by morning, I was going to fire you and find someone who knows what they're doing. Now you better get cracking on that servo winch mount.

how does the weight shift affect the rig now that the motor is on the same side as the battery? I could be over thinking it again though as I dont know what weighs more, the trans or the motor....

Probably overthinking a bit. Since the motor, tranny and battery are all staying inside the frame rails, the rearrangement is unlikely to have any noticeable impact left-right. And even after the flip, the servo sits on the left side, as does the receiver box and (at least for most people) the ESC. Thanks for the order!
