Default SO........are the shocks leaking?

This was one of the long-term concerns that people brought up when this kit was introduced. They wanted to know if the shocks were going to leak as much as the old kits. So to those who have had their kits a while now, how are the newer shocks holding up compared to the older shocks? More of the same or a marked improvement?

My G6 Kit shocks were garbage. They wouldn't go for more than a couple of days without puking all of the oil out.

EDIT - before you think I am bashing this kit, I would like to say that I just bought one, and can't wait to run it! I'm just trying to pinpoint any areas where I may want to pick different parts, or try different solutions!

I stopped trusting in Axial O rings long ago. Traxxas X rings go into all my shock builds now and ensure no leaks. There's nothing new or redesigned with the SCX10 II kit shocks other than the fact that they removed the TiNi coating on the shafts so unless they introduced invisible stop leak magic I would say to expect the same oil retaining abilities of the previous design.

Are those the blue Orings that Traxxas makes? I use those in my SC10.2 and they are better than the Associated Orings. I will look into those, thanks for the tip!

And of course I have 5 NIP packs of axial Orings on my bench....

I'm betting it's TRA2362, but I would wait for confirmation.

Could not get two of mine to stop leaking, just installed Proline scalers.

Sorry fellas, I shoulda put the helpful info. Yes, it's Traxxas part number 2362 and I only end up using the 4 blue X rings on a pair of shocks. LHS sells them for less than $2 per package so it's worth it for smooth and leak free shocks.

No leaks so far. I used marine grease on the o rings when I built them.

Green slime doesn't stop a leaky shock from leaking, period. It's purpose is to aid in the assembly of a shock to prevent knicks to the O rings that cause leaks.

It also aids in preventing the ring from swelling over time. It will help by having a smoother shock for a longer time before needing oring replacement. I tried with and without in my racing days and found it to help quite a bit with this.

When I built my first set I put sole silicone on the shock shaft before sliding it through the lower o-rings. This seemed to work pretty good and very little seepage.

The top is a little trickier. I had to crank those down really much tighter than I care to. They appear to be ok now.

I do like that they don't get stuck in the up position like one set of my SCX10 shocks.

I've went through a couple dozen 3000mah packs and so far so good. Ive even disassembled them a couple times messing with the dampening without changing o rings.

So I have some info for everyone. I went to build the shocks today, and these shocks are NOT compatible with the TRA2362 Traxxas Orings. In fact, these shocks are not compatible with the OLD axial Orings either. These are a new diameter, and much smaller than the older P3 orings.

This means the shocks HAVE gone through some level of redesign, hopefully with leak prevention in mind. That's great news for most, but bad news for me, as I have about 100 orings that wont fit my new truck. Oh well!

Do you have a set of calipers? I'm curious what the new shaft OD is. Maybe the lack of TiNi coating is the reason but I doubt it. To the original topic question, all three guys running kits in my local group have leaky shocks now. 1 of the guys did a complete rebuild with no change in oil tightness. I'm running leak free ProLines on my kit. Powerstrokes in the rear and Scalers in the front. Nothing but excellent performance from them.

Not sure about that. Same part number (AXA1179). My kit was short an o-ring and I stole one from an old Icon shock from my G6 kit.

I see now. I have the AXA1201 (P3 3x2mm) that I tried, those must be for another axial kit. I thought they were for the SCX10 but they are NOT.

But still just to reiterate, the TRA2362 WILL NOT FIT the SCX10 shocks, as indicated previously in this thread. The TRA2362 is the replacement option for the AXA1201.

I'm also saddened to hear that the leakiness continues. I was really hoping those Traxxas Xrings would fix the issue, since those very same rings fixed my leaks in other models.

Im still going strong with no leaks. I'm assuming the marine grease I put on the o-rings during the install is the magic trick to keeping them leak free.
