SCX10-II - Winning is hard.

I've got my sights set on actually placing in a SORRCA event this year. So, rather than cheating and failing like I've done in the past, I'm staying fairly simple with this next build.

Axial sent me a SCX10-II RTR a few months back, and while I was happy with the RTR-ness, it was never going to stay that way. So with the help of a few friends' bits and pieces, I'm putting together a simple, no nonsense, full 50 point truck. I hope...

Step 1. Look at existing RTR SCX10-II.

Step 2. Replace Everything.

Started by adding some very nice all-metal sliders, stinger bumper with winch fairlead, from my friends at Scalerfab.com.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/Ll81ux.jpg

There's also a metal skid plate there, from I can't remember who, but hey, slidey slidey! All the links got replaced with Axial's aluminum ones from the kit version. Axles also got black diff covers, but all of this will be replaced with Vanquish junk ASAP.

Next, I plopped a SuperShafty Bombproof SCX10 trans with 6mm outputs in place of the stock unit. This required a little bit of trimming of the battery box to fit properly, as those outputs are huge. No biggie, still looks pretty stock. I like purple and gold anodizing.

Since Scalerfab's sliders replace the existing ones, I cut out the radio box (because waterproof) and reattached it in it's proper place (because weight distribution).

Winch is in it's stock comp location and is a... hmmm. I've forgotten. But it's strong and doesn't quit. Trust me on that.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/ks6rqe.jpg

Knight Customs supplied a firewall/inner fender kit which looks awesome and hides my insides.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...922/cnJng4.jpg

RC4WD TRD Pro knockoff wheels (you can thank me for these ;) ) and Pro-Line Hyrax 1.9 wheels with CI foams.

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...921/dhQrOA.jpg

That inner fender/firewall kit obviously goes with this body:

Step 3. Adjust things.

I've constantly had a problem with suspension unloading on me at the worst possible time. To maybe sorta try to eliminate that I've fitted some limiting straps to the front suspension, which I've replaced with Pro-Line Powerstroke shocks. I like how they tuck the nose down just a touch.

More to come under Step 3.

Step 4. Ponder Electrics. Hey Tekin, when's that new waterproof RX4 come out?

Thanks gentlemen, I'm happy to be building something on the SCX10-II again. Such a great platform. Lots of changes to make and detailing to do, but I'm pretty stoked to show off the wrap Neal did for me at Freqeskinz.

It's pretty awesome looking in Matte, and from a distance, when applied correctly, and with proper exterior details, it could pass for a hard body.

That wrap is killer! I gotta be honest, I was hoping for another liquid mask masterpiece on this one!!

Haha, not to worry. There's another body on order specifically for AxialFest. ;-)

I'm glad to see the Hyrax on this one too. I've had mine out a couple times and have been really impressed. Any particular reason you didn't opt for the Proline dual stage foams versus the CI ones? Assuming you had them laying around. I have the Proline's in mine and they fit great. The 2.2's, not so much though.

Looks like I need to talk to freqeskinz. The last two wraps I've seen from them are fantastic. Nice build, you'rethatguy.

Looks great so far!!

What's the quality like on the Knights 3d printing? Really fancy one, but the 3d printed stuff i've had in the past has been, well, fragile to say the least...

Wow. I've done a paint job on mine about the same as your wrap. Mine pails in comparison. Gret looking build. Can't wait for more.

Which front bumper from scaler fab is that? Is that the raised honcho style or the style that come out even with the frame rails. I ordered that body and want that bumper but not sure which one fits better.

Methinks that's a wise decision.

Hmm. Maybe I did go with their dual stage. I honestly can't remember. Wait, yes, I did go with their foams. I'm a doy yoy.

He's doing some very innovative stuff. Who've thunk that people would want their trucks to look like crap? ;-)

His stuff is all printed via Shapeways. Their Laser-Sintered process is much finer resolution than the junk you can get at home. Still a touch bit grainy, but with the right finishing, it's the best on the market. Not fragile at all. I run my other SCX10 pretty hard, and his stuff has stood up to everything I've thrown at it.

This bumper right here.

Knight Customs also provides the lenses for their grille. With a bit of Clear Tamiya Orange and Clear Tamiya Clear, they come alive!

Oh dear, I've borked the back of the turk. Thanks to that clown Harley, I've printed out his handy Honcho bed holder bits for this body, and trimmed away the ghastly "drop bed" to make a more real looking comp truck thingy going on back there.

Much gooder. And spare tire for more scale points.

Man, the way you build trucks is on point. You have a great vision when it comes to these things, it's quite inspiring. Thanks for sharing these on the forums!

Very well done, sir. I'm very impressed with the wrap but guessing there was some (lie...more than some) skill involved in the install. Care to share any tips? Did you use any heat to get everything to conform without wrinkles? Any other little tips or tricks?
