| ADlBOO's Hardbody XJ Build
I suck at documenting builds, so this will be my first attempt at one. Starting with a SCX10.2 kit and a Team Raffee XJ body. Kit went together as expected, nothing crazy there. Plans for the build are to replicate my 1:1 Cherokee as close as possible, including metal roof rack, full set of lights on the body and bumpers, and a light bar on the roof rack. I'm debating between 1.9 and 1.55 wheels, 1.9s look OK, just worried that 1.55 will be too small. This is where it sits now, started doing an interior, no pics yet. Waiting to get electronics installed to continue with the interior. This is my SCX10 that got me started in scale crawling. . Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

I have a hard body on order. New to this game so I too will be watching your build. I am leaning towards 1.9 wheels but with a shorter tire, 3.7 to 3.9. I change my mind often though. Same with bumpers and roof racks.

Running the numbers on dimensions between the body and a Cherokee, it comes just under 1/8 scale. So it makes a 1.9 like a 16" wheel 1:1, and 1.55 close to 13". But with most of the small diameter tires on a 1.9, there's just too little side wall. The bumpers that come with the scx10.2 kit match the hardbody perfectly, so I'm gonna run those for a while. I'm gonna grab some pictures of my 1:1 and post those up soon. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

So what size tires do you suggest with a 1.9 inch wheel? And what roof rack is that on your other truck picture?

I think a tire around 4.2 has a good scale look for a 1.9 rim. But it depends on what look your going for also, my 1:1 has 32" mud terrains on 15 rims, so I'm trying to get as close to that look as possible. And that's the pro line roof rack. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

Sounds about right. I got out the calculator after I asked the question. I am going for that daily driver weekend warrior look with some cars and coffee shows as well.

Here's the pics of my current progress with the interior. Need to finish the wheel wells, box in the transmission [cooler maybe], probably going to leave the shock towers exposed. My electronics are in the mail, so once those are installed I'll begin the front portion of the interior build. And here's my 1:1 that this build will be replicating. It looks like to me that the hard body is a bit smaller than the lexan body. Which would be great as I've always thought the stock body is oversized. Is this true or only an opticl dilution on my part?

The hard body comes with a grill insert, and head light lenses. And the hard body is smaller than the stock axial body, the hard body can fit inside the axial one. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

Decided to up the detail and make the hood functional. Had a small hiccup when cutting out, the grill support overlaps into the hood, so had to cut a1/8 out of the hood then re glue it back on, but that left me with a nice lip for the hood to rest on when closed. Other reason it will allow for battery changes without removing the body. Next up is hinges. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

Any updates? Curious to see what you use for hinges.

I too will be keeping an eye on this, as my lexan body is not holding up very well. Anybody know if the scx10II kit roof rack fits?

This looks very similar to what I am doing to my RTR version. I am up to creating an interior so I too will keep watching your build. The pictures are great. My body is painted, just need to color sand the lacquer and clear coat it. Do you plan on tinting the windows? If so, how? I have used window tint paint on lexan bodies before but it didn't look great. Thinking of going to a tint shop and getting some scraps. Thanks |

After a small hiatus, I'm back! Started working on my build again, finally got front and rear mounts made. Went with magnets, easier to take on and off, also in the event of a bad roll over hopefully the body will come off and avoid some destruction. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

Current progress on the body. Gonna finish the hinged hood, then start prepping for paint. Do you guys recommend putting the windows in first, or painting first? Whats the preferred glue for the windows also? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |
