Three more full packs in, absolutely no signs of any wear on the gears.

SSD RC Axle Gear Set for AR44 / SCX10 II at RPP.
They look real good at a real good price IMHO... on my parts list.

Looks really good. I think SSD did well for themselves with the price, otherwise they would've priced themselves out of the market.

No reason not to use the SSD gears if they last (as) well.

(Still no problems with the xtra speeds though )

Please, any further discoussion about the SSD gears into their own respective thread. Let's keep this for the xtra speeds. Thanks!

Is there anything they won't copy

Steel locker:
for Axial SCX10 II #XS-SCX230073, ,(XS-SCX230073) by Xtra Speed Gear Locker Set Black

That's so cheep I might even order a pair for a test. What could possibly go wrong if they just have the proper tolerances?

The offset design on the teeth makes the it so that the ring gear wants to pull in the pinion in one direction and push it outwards in the other.

Since the axles are opposite ways at each end, one will work fine (going forwards) by pushing the pinion out, but the other axle wants to suck it in, probably causing havoc with the teeth.

But then again, this is only my theory. People run the Axial gears without shims most of the time, and they report little or no damage to the teeth.
Agreed, all gears especially ring and pinion type should have the mesh checked and shimmed as needed.

Even after some 5+ packs, they still look like they are new! You can barely see the spot where the pinion hits but that's about it.

Harder gears are good. From what I've learnt shimming properly is the most important for long life.

Count also big bearings and high quality bearings( Very important )
