To avoid it I put a custom thickness spacer between both pinion bearings, no axial preload and no play, and another custom thickness spacer between outside pinion bearing and driveshaft

Thanks for the tips( A lot of money and time spent ) really got to shims properly next time.

Another reason was I find myself hard to find correct size in shims. Ask few local hardware shops, they just said: we do not carried the size, as these shims are way too small for regular use.

After the first time I spent the front screws I replaced both lockers with FI lockers from LURC and changed to some stainless screws (with no black dioxide coating) kept with the stock 30t/8t. Still havent had any problems, running holmes brushless power. May get some spares just in case.

Did you get these deep set Boom gears? Still haven't seen real world results on them. After somebody had mentioned their was a flaw in design, I held back.

on a friends new rig he has VP spools heavy-duty gears front and rear. Stock ratio in the rear overdrive in the front. Been holding up fine with a roc 3s and 4S batteries. Not one problem yet

Order a set online. For example, I got a Kyosho 5x7 shim set with 10 each of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3mm shims for less than 10$.

Edit: 8$ shipped worldwide from Amain. Get some bigger ones for the sides (can't remember diameter) and you're set. Maybe a set of .5mm ones too.

Just received these, will hopefully install tonight. Spool and spur came already bolted together. Hardware is m2 not m2.5, shouldn't really matter since they are keyed together but I think other manufacturers could benefit from larger bolts if they are going to copy the Axial lack of interface.

So I have played with them a little bit and the bevel gear and the spool are a super tight press fit. As long as the gear mesh is good and the gears are hard enough, these are going to be bombproof!

Have them installed and they are super smooth. I am going to punish them this week, should be able to burn 5-6 7000mah 3s batts through them and will see what they look like this weekend. The Xtra Speed one piece bevel and locker didn't even make it through 1 4000mah battery. Fingers crossed!

Alright. So I have run 21000mah 3s power through these so far, mostly at full throttle. It was only three hours of running, but three brutal hours. I am super impressed with the wear, more of just a polishing. These are the only gears I will run from here on out, was so sick of having to finish a trail in 2wd because of those damn broken bolts. Worth every penny.

Good news; however, I have not had the displeasure of a broken bolt yet. I only have about 120hrs logged on mine though.

No issues at all! I have been beating the snot out of these and am about to order another set for my swb build. I won't even consider using anything but these from here on out.

Getting ready for the season, opened my axles up to clean and lube and found this. This has been driven hard for nearly a year, I was blown away.
