Default Axial stocker shocks (again...)

New to forum, howdy. Picked up a 2017 JK RTR, cool rig. Probably won't be stock for long, thinking about lights, maybe different wheels/tires, some sort of roof rack, interior. Not sure what to do about a roof mounted light bar, the RC4WD or Vanquish mounts that attach through the A-pillar seem to need the roll cage bars from the older JK - topic for a different day.....

Upon unboxing, one shock clearly wet the box, so there is truth to the "leaks from the factory" quality of these shocks.

I saw a video a while back about rebuilding using fatter o-rings to help seal it up, can't remember where and the o-ring the guy used was old and not currently available, it was a couple year old video I believe.

Any ideas for a fatter replacement o-ring currently available that could help remedy the problem?

Thx.

I use Traxxas tra2362 seal kits. I also use Buzzy's Slick Honey on the seals and shaft and piston.

Interesting. I've never heard of this stuff before. What does it look like? I use Noleen SF3 (AKA Associated Green Slime).

Axial makes the absolute worst shocks. People argue with me every time I say that and I just have to laugh.

I would suggest upgrading the shocks to anything other than Axial or RC4WD when you can.

You can get it at bike shops. It's what I use when overhauling bike forks and shocks.

I meant the actual substance. I found pictures of the container all over Google.

BTW - holy large photos, Batman!

I have some probably similar grease from RockShox, it's old but works well. Thanks for the recommendations.

To rebuild all 4 with the traxxas o-rings, need 2 of those rebuild kits? For $2 and change, seems worth a try.

Ah if you used Tapatalk it might resize them.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. It looks like white green slime.

Each kit comes with 4, 1 in each with 1 of the stock orings between the traxxas and the cap. Judy butter should work

Judy's butter (ha), yep, that's the stuff. Probably doesn't go bad.

Appreciate it.

Amen! The first time I took mine apart, the inside was rough from molding and very leaky.

About a week after I built my SCX10 II kit I gave the stock shocks to my local hobby shop,
I just walked in and said here give theses shocks to someone that my want them and walked out.
True Story !!!
I bought a set of RC4WD King shocks after that.
I knew the history of the stock axial shocks and just didn't want to deal with them agine.
I know some don't like RC4WD King shocks but I never had any problems after the five sets I have bought over the years.

Stock plastic Axial shocks leak and will always leak.

I've rebuilt them with Traxxas o-rings and Associated green slime, they still leak.

I've had good results with the Axial aluminum body shocks with Traxxas o-rings and green slime though.
