Why is my axle chattering? Anybody know why my axle is chattering at full steering lock? It does this for both left and right, starts at about 75% steering, and continues on through to full lock. Do I need to shim my diff and if so, which side(s)? https://photos.app.goo.gl/lHs5orSc8EDCG3tm2 |

Fwiw that wobble has gotten me unstuck a lot of times. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? Does anyone else's axles chatter when turning? I'm surprised no one's mentioning it in the forums. Hmm... |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? All of mine will if i turn too far....just the nature of the beast...mine starts at about 80% or so... Not a big deal and it has been mentioned numerous times |

Re: Why is my axle chattering? Yeah the shafts are binding from over steer. I've busted them before and have also popped dog bones out doing that. Need to turn the steering dual rate down a bit. |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? Could be reduce the chattering by using CVD Instead of Universe joint? |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? Ugh. Well that's frustrating. They're CVDs for goodness sake! And it's not like I'm asking them to do 90 degrees or something. Shouldn't they be able to take it? I mean, that's the whole point of CVDs, right? Isn't there a way to tune them by filing down the points that rub? I thought I read that somewhere. |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? must be a female axle |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? Scx10-2 have univeral joint style NOT cvd. Cvd's are only good to about 50* while a universal can be clearanced to turn 70*. The further from straight you turn the more wobble there is at the tires as the ears of the axles speed up and slow down while they rotate. That speed change is the chatter. Stock style ar44 knuckles only allow for about 48* angle so there shouldn't be any issue with breakage. |

Re: Why is my axle chattering? Flip the rig onto its back and turn full lock either way and hold slow steady throttle. The tires speed up & slow down as they rotate which throws them into a tizzy. Its hard to see unless you're going real slow. |
Re: Why is my axle chattering? Yeah I saw that in the video referenced here: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/general-crawlers/593097-driveshaft-phase.html#post5778506 Interesting stuff! |
