Default Castle Creations Mamba X ESC & Motor Combo ?

I saved up some money to buy a Castle Creations Mamba X ~ ESC & Motor Combo
I found three I like but I don't know witch one is the best for my trail truck.
My truck is an SCX10 II ~ That is very heavy as of 9lb. With the battery installed.
I would just use it for trail & some crawling.
All had a rating of 9lb. Max on the weight limit. ~ All the same price of $209.99
{ And will they all work fine right out of the box with out having to use the Castle Link } ?

Castle Creations Mamba X Sensored 25.2V WP ESC and 1406-1900Kv Sensored Combo
Castle Creations Mamba X Sensored 25.2V WP ESC and 1406-2850Kv Sensored Combo
Castle Creations Mamba X Sensored 25.2V WP ESC and 1406-3800Kv Sensored Combo

Thank You for any info on this !!!

IMO the 2850 would be the way to go unless you want more speed and less crawling then the 3800.

I would also pick the 2850, BUT get the link, it will open up the esc, well worth it.

I’m looking at the same combo and from my research the 2850 is what most choose. I would also suggest the link, but until you get it most local hobby shops have one and would be happy to adjust the setting for you.

Not sure about the combos, but my mamba x came with a coupon for a free castle link.

That’s common from Castle, that’s how I got both of mine.

FYI there is also a 2280kv if you are considering the 1900kv. Just to throw more options into the mix. This might be the one I go with.

Im running the Mamba X with the 2850kv motor in my new Honcho. While its not a heavy rig right now, still fairly stock, the setup works great for me. Great low speed control and tons of wheel speed when needed. I also run the same setup in my Ascender which is gaining some weight and it does great too.

Thanks Guys For All The INFO !!!

I was just about to place an order with RPP Hobby,
For the: Castle Creations Mamba X 1406-2850Kv Sensored Combo,
But I called my local hobby shop first to see if they would program it with the Castle Link for me.
They said sure no problem and they told me they had some Mamba X Combos in stock.

There setting me up with a 2400 ? ~ It's the same price as the other combos at $209.99
{ Is that an older model of the Mamba X Combo's } ???

The 2400kv motor is a lot bigger than the ones included with the crawler combos. I think you will need a pinion for a 5mm shaft with that motor.

The slate motors are the same size as the motor on the right, the 2400kv is in the middle.

Thanks svt923 For the info.
Will that 2400 Motor combo work good in my 9lb. truck ?
I ask them if they could program the esc for a smooth forward & reverse and 50% drag brake.
I dropped my truck off yesterday 2/22/2018 and there installing the motor & esc plus programing it
I took the old motor & esc out first to save them a little work.
They have been vary good to me over the years,
How many years, Well I bought my original Tamiya Blackfoot truck from them !!! ~ LOL
A shout out to: Riders Hobby Shop ~ Flint MI. ~ Thanks Guys !!!
And For All The Help From You Guys On Here ~ Also...

I just installed the Castle Mamba Micro X 2850KV in my SCX10 ii. I'm not sure on my weight, but its fairly heavy with alum bumpers, sliders, rear tire carrier, steel roof rack, brass link mounts, fender liners, interior with action figure and 1.9XL tires. One battery worth of trail running and it was fine. Even got it stuck in thick soupy mud and the extra resistance didn't seem to effect the motor *Knocks on wood*. It says up to 8lbs, so you should be good with your 9lb rated setup.

Up-Date ~ The guy at the hobby shop made a mistake that combo was for a short course truck.
So they ordered the one I wanted in the first place. That was from Rpp Hobby
The: Castle Creations Mamba X Sensored 25.2V WP ESC and 1406-2850Kv Sensored Combo
That combo is for a 9lb. truck like mine.
So now we are both back on track. ~ I should get my truck back form the hobby shop by the 28th.

Like mentioned earlier that combo does come with a free coupon for a castle link. So make sure and get the coupon from your lhs when you pick up the truck. It will vome in handy down the road.

The SCX 10 II I’m finishing up wil be primarily used for crawling and a bit of trail running. I don’t need it to be a go fast rig but don’t want it to be boring slow like a rtr wraith is on 2s. I’ll be running this exclusively on 3s. Would a 2850 kv be the best choice?

Hi laedco58,
I am new to brushless but the guys on here said the 2850 between the 1900 & 3800
Would be the best of the three for trail running and crawling.
I am only going to run with a 2s at least for now.
I hope to do some test runs this weekend with my new setup.
{ Go to You-Tube and type ( Castle 2850kv ) and it has a few trail trucks running that motor }

I’ll be giving the Mamba X/slate 2850kv combo a go in my recent SCX 10 II build when the snow is gone.
