Default revo rod end question

Usually good at searching for answers but im drawing a blank on this one.... Looking to upgrade the stock rod ends on my kit scx2 to revo with incision balls. Question is will the standard revo rod ends work in place of the bent and off set stockers with out causing binding issues, and will the revo ends thread on to the set screws in stock kit links.

Thanks for any help

I used RPM Revo rod ends with axial width brass balls from vanquish on my Bomber and got rid of the bent axial ends.

I had to use an SSD M4 spacer with each rod end to keep stock lenght.

Just make sure you know the lenght of the rod ends you want to buy first.

They worked fine for me, and I also used the vanquish brass balls.

I've got the straight ends on mine as well. No Ill effects from switching out the bent or offset ends.

On most aftermarket links / rods, it's the links that are bent to align the rod end with the skids / axles.

Just incase anyone is currious i did the upgrade. The traxxas 5347 rodends work well in most places. I used an m4 lockwasher from lowes (24 cents for 5) and it worked out perfectly for a spacer (the ssd spacers were out of stock everywhere). The only issues i had were on the rear outside links on the skid plate they have an offset that lowers the link horizontally and with traxxas ends the link was hitting skid. That being said i dont think it would be an issue with rtr skid and im also running shorter then stock shocks and and binding was at the very top of travel so with stock shocks it may not be an issue. Also the drag link uses offset ends that keeps it off the pumpkin, and it was obvious you would loose steering if you used straight ends. I had some fresh axial ones on an unused tree and the vanquish balls fit perfect, so time will tell if the stock rod ends hold up with decent balls. Hope this helps someone Photo was of offending links....

We used Traxxas 5347 Revo rod ends with the stock links. They come with steel hollow balls and work great (all straight).

The Revo rod ends are 1.5 mm shorter than the Axial ends. SSD makes 1.5 mm spacers that fix the offset:

But no one seems to have them in stock. So we used 3 mm spacers with the right OD:

Here’s the links with the spacers installed. We put them on the skid plate end, but either orientation works fine.

So I just got a set of the RPM version of the revo rod ends and MY GOD are they so much better. We need to stop recommending the Traxxas rod ends and recommend the RPM version instead. The real Kicker? THEY HAVE THEM IN LONG VERSION!!!

I'll give you my experience with those RPM rods in the long version, if you're using just one for each link install the long rod into the chassis side, not the axle, i've broken several ones that went into the axle and none of them going into the chassis, the reason i can think of this happening is that the long rod isn't strong enough to hold the rotational force exerted in the axle side, but it has no problem on the chassis side

I could see that being an issue. I decided to go with all short ones and replaced my revo ends with them for my SSD-RC heavy duty stainless links. They FEEL stronger. My Slash has a fair amount of aluminum but all the stress parts were upgraded to RPM after they broke, and believe you me a lot of the stock parts broke. Ive even broken a few revo rod ends, and on my scx10.2 the reason I got the rpms was cause of a revo rod end threading wearing out.

Why not put the right ones back on the truck? With the correct bends and just as strong if not stronger than revo ends.

Right ones as in axial rod ends?

They break if you look at them for too long...

I'm running samix stainless steel pivot balls on my SCX10II and the stock rod ends are holding up very well, haven't changed one since. The plastic pivot ball are garbage!
