Scx10ii based Toyota lc70 build

Like the tittle says I’m working on a scx10ii based lc70!

When boom racing released how they did there mst based lc70 build it was actually the first time I wanted this body. I admit I did almost order the tf2 lwb when it had this body but that was for the bigger bed.

Anyways I thought about doing to full on scale thing but thinking about that didn’t get me motivated. Then it was going to be a v8 powered tf2 with link conversion on yota 2 axles..... however that gets expensive quick, the rc4wd v8 is almost always out of stock so scratch that. Then i started noticing more built off-road style builds. Like the slightly taller with wider axle builds and then new what I was going to do with it!

Buttt I didn’t have the body, and getting one new from a us based company proved quite difficult. After a few weeks I finally found one in Australia for a good price and ordered it. Several weeks later it finally arrived.

Which I was unfortunately buried in the f350 build, still kinda am though but decided to pick up a few things for this build.

Anyways as it sits it’s basically a stock deadbolt chassis with incision links and stock axles. The wheels will be incision methods with pit bull tires, possibly the braven Ironsides that are mounted on the silver ssd wheels.

Other plans are to get the ssd complete axles for this rig as well and build it. It’s not going to be as custom as the f350, but it will be nicely built. I am still debating brushed or brushless.

This rig is going to be what is on the trailer being towed by the f350 or the hilux (haven’t really started)

what size of wheel do you plan to use? I feel event 1.5" may look too big for lc70 body.

I’m hoping 1.9 with an around 4 inch tall tire. The braven Ironsides in the one picture are I think just under 4.

I will be putting crawler innovations foams in there to before it’s done

Wheels and tires are still up in the air though I am hoping I can stick with 1.9s.

In other news I picked up the hood hinge kit for this thing. I was debating on getting the opening doors kit but I don’t plan on running an interior so I decided not to get it for now

Re: Scx10ii based Toyota lc70 build

I contacted kiss fab a feels ago about getting mounts made for this and was told to check back with them the beginning of December. Which I did and they unfortunately do not have a new shop and said they wouldn’t until possibly February!

Since I’m not that patient I decided to just order the killerbody mounts in the 3-35/3.75 and 4.72 inch tire version. I do not plan on running that large of a tire but I figured I can cut it down.

Also ordered the loops model arb bumper

Hi my friend, nice work. I am building mine, take a look:

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/newbi...st5885365.html

Is my very first RC car, so it take me a lot of time to reach this point.

I have some questions for you:

Is it necesary to cut the body to make it fit with the Axial chasis, tansmission, battery, motor, etc? Do i have to change the location of some parts on the chasis?

Is it necesary to modify the rear shocks position or something?

I appreciate your help!!!"thumbsup"

As of right now I haven’t really gotten too far into it as I’m wanting to get the body mounted first before deciding to go with the kit or scx10 transmission.

So far the body is 100% stock, but I do have the hood hinge kit for it so I will have to trim the grill. I do also have a different bumper on the way as I’m not big on the stock one.

Currently the chassis is completely stock and it looks like the front half of the chassis will not need to be changed. The rear will either need holes cut into the body, shocks could be tilted forward a bit or you could run cantilever in the rear. I’m most likely going to go cantilever. Only other thing is the stock electronics mounts will need to be cut.

In other news there is a set of ssd complete ar44 axles on the way for this along with axial narrow wheel hex’s so I should be able to decide which tire to run soon

I got the body mounted somewhat. I just need to make the bed mount holes large enough to fit an m3 screw. I have the drill bit, just haven’t drilled it.

It’s mounted high enough so the tires will only rub a little bit at full stuff so I will probably go with smaller tires than theses braven Ironsides.

I’m going to wait and figure out the final tire size though until the dinky cantilever kit gets here so I can make sure that the tires will clear the rear end

They sell bigger flares where you cut out some of the body and it makes it easier to stuff in some larger tires. Something to think about. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...780bd9e725.jpg

Scx10ii based Toyota lc70 build

I was able to get the body to sit lower on the frame so the stock electronics plate sit about even with the bottom of the body. I also realized I have a use for the doors to open so I’ll be picking up the kit from killerbody. I can mount the electronics on the factory plates and I can hide the switch behind the door

I also moved the front mount back 1 hole so the front wheels would sit better in the wheel openings, and it looks like I’ll need to stretch the rear links a bit.

I did need to open up the front wheel openings a bit, all I did was put the stock flares up against the body and and drew a line at the edge of the flare. Then using a cut off disk on the dremel and a sanding drum I was able to get the opening pretty good so far, only 1 side is done though.

After the other wheel opening is larger I’ll put the body back on and post pics of it

Awesome I was actually thinking about doing the same thing... I want something different... Like my f350 crewcab that I'm building as 1:1 as possible. I don't know what other bodies to build

That’s my problem to. Sometime after February I’m starting a xlwb mojave build using an identical chassis an links as my f350. After that, I don’t know what to build

Thanks but I already have the chassis and am currently waiting on body mounts to get ordered and made (the shop is closed till February).

The chassis for the mojave and f350 quad cab builds are stretched blazin scale rc class 1 chassis.

Re: Scx10ii based Toyota lc70 build

i sprayed the body with tamiya primer and then with a gloss orange and was far from happy with the results! it turned out to be a burn orange with a ton of paint runs!! So im going to have to sand the body to get the runs out and respray the entire thing all over again.

in other news i picked up the killerbody door opening kit!

Ouch Cobra...

I feel your pain. I had a similar issue with my FJ cruiser except the color was right. horrible runs, thin paint in areas, orange peal.... I hate painting hard bodies!
