Blurry picture but you can see the tie rod and drag link clearance.

After a year and a half this Hitec 7954sh steering servo motor went out. A new Hitec 7954sh steering servo going right back in.

The first gears to break in this stock SCX10.2 transmission were the 20t drive gears. I replaced them with hot racing hardened steel gear set.

I really like them, the rubber is super soft and this cut works great on red rocks, slick rocks and on wet rocks. I am using CrawlerInnovations 4.50 Comp Cut Soft foams in the front. I need to make another set for the rear because the front Treps are bigger than the RockBeasts so the front spins slower than the rear.
Thanks For The Thread Support.

Hot Racing Overdrive gears for the front axle and a new Vanquish Products Spool.

After Driving the new tube front end I wanted to add a Winch for forced articulation. I took the Chuggy apart and TIG welded a 1/8 flat bar with the winch pattern drilled into the bar. I next made a new transmission mount with an rcbros tab and some 3/16 tube.

I also added some nuts for delrin electronics/battery tray and a 1/8 bar with a slight bend for the winch-line to slide on.

More pics of the winch.

Good picture of the rear upper links and how wide they are.

The grooves on the Chuggy's skid plate is smooth from rock wear.

I am using a steel winch line with a hook that attaches to the upper link mount.

Footage of me testing the Chuggys Winch for forced articulation and front axle overdrive at the C.I Rock Pile. The winch is on a 3rd channel to my Futaba 4PK I have a simple button to winch in and winch out. This is part 1 of 2.

Part 2 of me testing the Chuggy's new winch for forced articulation and new front axle overdrive at the C.I Rock Pile.

After the first run the steel winch line broke... I reinstalled another steel line and went out to drive and the line broke again I tried a 3rd time and the line broke again so I installed a fair lead at the front of the winch and the line lasted 4 battery packs and then broke... The winch is not as reliable as I wanted but when it works it helps going uphill, downhill, and side-hill.

More Pics!

Can you post more pics of your cut BFG A/Ts?

Also, how are you venting your tires? or are you?

Gavin, this thing gets better with every update! I really enjoy watching/reading other folks one off builds. I can see better welds and angles as this build goes on.... Oh... No wonder that panhard mount was flexing..Lol

I am using a leather hole punch with a 2mm punch. I vent each tire with four holes. I recommend that you vent each tire with THREE Holes at LEAST
to allow the tire to conform with out any air resistance this will allow the foam and tire to conform give traction and perform the best.

The BFG A/Ts I cut the center lugs out and cut the pin on each side of the tread off. This cut improves the BFG A/Ts traction, but these tire are not as good as non cut/stock Pitbull Rock Beast. The foams I used in the BFG A/Ts are Crawler Innovations:
Front Foam: Lil Nova Dual Stage Comp Cut Inner Medium Outer:CWR-2015:
Rear Foam: Deuces Wild Single Stage:CWR-3008:

Awesome thank you! I have the Axial BFGs and surprisingly they perform better than you would expect but I wouldn't mind altering them so I am always looking at what people try.

I have a set of Rock beasts on order, because of this thread. I will run the four 2mm punch holes as you suggested.

Thanks for the input and keep up the good work!

I took the Chuggy apart and I am going to be adding some Hot Racing Brass Knuckles and make a scale cooler chassis mount along with a fuel cell. I also wanted to add panels to the front frame to cover electronics and to keep dirt out.

I TIG welded a bar to make a triangle for a panel and welded nuts for a 1/16 delrin inner fender panel.

I removed the panel that was in the C to D pillar and added a fuel cell fill cap. I made the cap out of 1/8 rod with some thin steel TIG welded to the hoop and drilled and tapped the bolts to give scale appearance. I TIG welded a plate to bolt down the fuel cell.

The cooler is bolted down to the box that is TIG welded to the chassis.
