I forget where the SSD portals were originally brought up (the Vanquish portals thread maybe?) but I'm looking forward to these too.

Curious on the hex to hex width and portal gearing.

Nice, I wonder what the front axles would look like.

Should have mentioned I found this on RPP's new product spotlight. If the price is just for the housings and the portal gears it seems reasonable. If anything else is included then its spectacular. I am hoping they there will be an offering to just update my pro axles already on the rig.

SSD announced these a while ago and people have been constantly asking for updates so it's good to finally see them listed on RPP. Good find.

I just looked and they also have portal knuckles listed at $119.99. If that's the case I think the rear axle would be more than $69.99 compete, but I could be wrong because SSD prices are typically great.

The product pages are in progress right now. Full details will be up later today or Monday.

The knuckles are CNC machined aluminum. The rear axle is injection molded nylon as it cant be a bolt on part like the front for the rear. So the only way to make them affordable was to go nylon.
Anyone who has SSD axles will know our nylon is pretty good.

I like everything but the cvd style axles. Nothing a bit of dremel work on universals can't fix though.

In case people do not notice, you can switch the gears and overdrive the front.

Yup, noticed that, good design.

Looks like 14 & 18 tooth gears so that gives a bit of range in offsetting the ratios.

We do not recommend using these on plastic AR44 axles with removable C hubs.

Im confused. The last thing I want to do is use those horrible one piece axial axles. One of the first things I did to my II was get ssd pro axles. Are you saying you don't recommend using them on the axial kit style, or all axles with removable C hubs.

Because honestly that's a deal breaker for me.

14/16 or 16/14 but have space for lower ratio gears if needed later.

As we all know the tiny AR44 C hub splines are not reliable. So for now I would not use these on a plastic Ar44 axle that has removabl C hubs as they will probably spin. If you have beef tubes fitted and metal C hubs then they should be fine (or any other metal axle setup).

I'm not recommending using these on the SSD axles at the moment. As the Pro44/Diamond have cast metal tubes and the threads may get damaged. We have solution for this coming soon. New nylon tubes and new C hubs coming out for SSD axles.

We are moving away from the tiny AR44 C hub splines and have a new reliable fitting method on the new parts.

So we released these first as more of a RTR upgrade or metal axle upgrade.
SSD front portal axle will be released soon...

The increase in track width makes these a good option to throw under a Wraith/Bomber while keeping 2.2"s. With some wider hubs, you could get back up to AR60 width if you wanted.

Why would you think that someone who bought ssd pro axles specifically for the metal tube would want to replace them with plastic?

This is a complete and utter disappointment.
I wish you luck, but no matter what you claim nylon is no substitute for metal.

I think I explained why the change to nylon clearly. The metal tubes were for the weight anyway.

We will be releasing portal weights also.

No shyte really?

Like I said I wish you luck.

There are other products out there at similar price points that will work for me. If I wanted plastic portal axles they are already available. Or if I wanted to mortage my house they were available also.

I like your products and held off this long in hopes of doing ssd portals. I happily purchased the pro axles for the metal for both the weight and not having to worry about pulling out screws and snapping tubes.

I always thought your products were a common sense design someplace above the crap but not at the sell a kidney price. This offering isnt that.
