| Best Scale Transmission?
I am either wanting to design/print my own scale transmission or purchase one. I’ve seen the RC4wd R4 single speed and the smaller one that comes with the Gelande. Any recommendations? I wish there was a 3D printable already but I may undertake the task and somehow use existing SCX10 parts to accomplish it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

SSD: Scale Transmission Kit for SCX10 Unless you've got your heart set on a passenger side front output, then GCM would be the go (can be assembled either way): GCM Webstore Canada International - LRT2 Trans Combo Set |

Are the SSD, RC4WD and GCM all the same base tranny with different motor and frame mounting kits? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They all look the same. The RC4WD does include the transfer case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The all look the same because I designed all 3. The ratios are different in all of them. The SSD transmission has a married transfer case. The GCM version has a different tcase. The RC4WD does not have a tcase. Last edited by SSD; 12-08-2018 at 03:08 AM. |

I didn’t think it was a coincidence they all look so close. I think it is a great looking transmission. I did notice the RC4WD one didn’t have a transfer case but assumed they offered one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If SSD made a overdrive T case for their model, i would so snag it up. ATM having to OD the front axle in the diff. |

| Re: Best Scale Transmission? What exactly is overdrive? And what is the advantage? I familiar with it in a 1:1 car transmission but only as it related to being out on the highway. How does it work in a RC truck and specifically the front axle? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

| Re: Best Scale Transmission? It means the front transmission output (and thus the front wheels) will spin faster than the rear which helps reduce turning radius and keep the front end down on climbs.

| Re: Best Scale Transmission? I've done a little research on this, and with the Hammer T-case (1.47:1), it comes back to 14.85:1 for front and rear output of the T-case. GCM's trans with T-case has an 11% overdrive to the front axle, which gives it 12.88:1 front & a 14.33:1 rear output. And now RC4WD has the T-case with adjustable over/under drive. The website ratio percentages seem a bit off to me, but regardless of that, it's nice to have options. |

Lots of good info. Hopefully it has been helpful for others considering a scale tranny as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The rc4wd setup has to be pieced together and even then is not a direct drop in like SSD and GCM options.

So I am packing up all my RC stuff and I thought I’d share some pics before it gets packed up for a few weeks. Will share details later. Need to make changes but I have a project ahead of this one for another fella on the forum. It will have a transfer case and straight 6 at some point. Going to work on a more scale bell housing.
