Default Motor direction is not what I want

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone could shed some light here.

I've been using a Traxxas 21t (reverse direction) motor with the XL5 HV Esc from Traxxas. Things were fine as far as I was concerned, but I replaced the motor with a new one and the can shows "rotation direction" but that just makes it go reverse. Switching the polarity of the wires or setting the Esc to throttle in reverse means the truck goes forward, but it's opposite of what the "rotation direction" indicates. Any harm in doing this?

Edit : with the stock 35t Axial motor, I have to set my radio to reverse throttle for it to turn in the right direction. This doesn't seem right.

I don’t think there is any harm in it running reversed and changing your remote settings. I could be wrong though.

No problems at all. Unless you've got some advance timing built into the motor - it looks like one that could possibly be an option - some rebuildable ones can rotate the end plate.

It's set to zero timing, but that sticker is throwing me off. I guess the rotation direction indicator is there for reference and not as a rule?

There are notches in the bell that are used for different timing settings. When you reverse rotate those marks on the bell are of no use. Not a big deal.

Its only a sticker, if you were to swing the end bell 180 degrees then it would be reversed, or if you swapped a wire.

So long as you don't have a lot of timing in the motor it shouldn't matter. If you do then just re-time it.

Holmes Hobbies has a great youtube video on how, when and why

If you have to reverse the throttle to correct your steering, then you have the esc and servo plugged into the wrong channel on your receiver.

Reversing the throttle should not effect the steering

I think he means the armature spins(turns) to the right.

I would hope someone would notice that turning the steering wheel makes the rig roll forward or reverse. But you never know, Ive seen worst on facebook.

I mean that the motor will turn in the expected direction (to get the truck moving forward).

Also, I'm here as I write this
