Talking Antigacho SCX10II Truggy MX

Hello from México
I want to start this threat the follow the building of my first RC Crawler
I already ordered all the parts that I thought were necessary, except paints, I haven't decided about the colors yet.

Inspired in the following photo I would like to modify the Tamiya Hilux body that I choose cutting the doors in half; I have no experience whit this kind of mods but I will do my best

The RC scene is very small in my city so the information in forums and RC parts reviews are very helpful in my case since they are my main source of information for this hobby.

That’s a long list of parts man.

Good choice on getting different width wheel hubs to fine tune the stance. The wheels you ordered are fairly wide and I’d bet you’ll find the Huns they come with, or the smaller hubs you ordered to be just right. The larger hubs you ordered would probably have the truck looking like a roller skate.

I had received most of the parts so its time o work

I have some boom racing gears and vanquish parts to upgrade the transmission
so that was the first thing that I did
installation of
Vanquish Products SCX10 II 2-Speed Transmission Motor Plate
Boom Racing Helical Pineapple Transmission Gear Set
Vanquish Products Atlas SCX10 II Aluminum Transfer Case
by the way, I'm using marine grease for transmission gears

I also replace the damaged transmission spur gear cover that I received as a replacement from Horizon Hobby, the original was damaged/defective out of the box

during the installation of the clutch pads and 32 pitch plastic spur gear, I decided to use a bearing instead of the plastic stock ring in the center driveshaft
I don't know it is good or not but I thought metal is most durable than plastic

Finally, I notice that the motor pinion was missing, so I had to order the replacement and now I have to wait another 45 days to receive it, bad luck

Adding a couple of upgrades, mods for axles

Vanquish Products SCX10 II Lower Link/Shock Mounts
Boom Racing AR44 Axle Diff Cover WSkid Plate

Those were easy to install, I think that skid plates adds good protection and looks great also.

Vanquish shock mounts are made of aluminum adding a couple of grams and bling.

Working on the rear Axel I decide to add an extra bearing (size 5x11x4) to fill that spot in the rear driveshafts, this is not required according to manual, but I want to see how it works...

That's all for today, lets clean the bench and storage the tools

Thanks, I still waiting for parts so I can´t continue for now.
Wheels, body mounts, rear cage, chassis braces, servo mount, and some body parts and interiors still on the way, unfortunately, the postal service in Mexico is annoyingly slow, lucky you in the US that can receive replacement parts in a couple of days

Meanwhile, I have to figure out how to cut that doors and paint the body

Aluminum Beadlock wheels received for my project, so three parts can be put together now

Pro-Line Hyrax 1.9" Rock Crawler Tires (Predator)
Pro-Line 1.9" Dual Stage Rock Crawling Foam Inserts
INJORA 4Pcs Aluminum Alloy 1.9 Beadlock Wheels rims

Those are the Injora Beadlocks, package wasn't fancy but quality looks good, and the wheels are well made, flawless construction in my opinion

This is the full combo to build today and the tools needed to wrench, basically 1.5mm and 2.5mm hex drivers

I do not recommend the use of power tools for this work, despite the multiple screws to install you want to do this by your own hands since you need the feeling to do it correctly

a couple of hours later...,

That is all for today, I ordered some other upgrades (Ti links ) so I have to update the parts list.

I also have to look for a welding workshop to make some modifications on the metal bumper to be installed. As it is just impossible to mount it in a correct way using this body and tires, I am also planning to modify the JR fabworks metal rear cage, I need to install a spare tire mount on it, photos in a future post

Before connecting my electronics I kindly ask for the help of the wise people on this forum.

I m planning to install the following electronics

• Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster BLE Pro
• Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro Motor (2700kV)
• Castle Creations BEC 2.0 Waterproof BEC
• Futaba R204GF-E 2.4GHz Receiver
• Savox SB-2290SG Brushless Servo
• Castle Creations B Link Bluetooth Adapter
• ZOP Power 11.1V 6000mAh 45C 3S Lipo battery
• Powershift RC Technologies Battery DMS Dead Man Switch Unit

I have an expensive servo so I want to protect it and power it using the CC BEC 2.0, just for the servo,

I want to keep a constant 7.4 voltage to take advantage of the torque and do not overcharge the ESC

Please take a look at the diagram an let me know is it is ok or I need to modify something before the real wiring.

As you can notice I have to build some special connectors. including one to connect the BEC directly to the servo

I notice that Holmes Hobbies has an adapter that allows the use of an external BEC for servo power without needing to disable ESC's internal BEC, I think that this I what I need but I notice some difference in My diagram VS the Holmes bypass, so which setup should I Use

I really appreciate your comments and suggestions for this diagram, I do not want my electronics to explode

This has to be the slowest building on this forum but parts take forever to arrive, usually, parts shipped from China takes 60-70 days to arrive, parts from the USA takes 30-40 days. Third world problems, lol

I still have to find a welding workshop to modify the metal rear cage and bumper mount. meanwhile, I can fill (rebuild) the Pro-Line PowerStroke Scaler Shocks to be ready to install later.

As many of you know Shock Shaft Pliers are very useful for this work. in my case, I have a Chinese generic tool that does the work. I don't have the famous green smile to prevent leaks but I will use ProTek RC "Premier Blue" O-Ring Grease & Multipurpose Lubricant (PTK-1410) instead and finally my useful car/shock stand

I'm not familiar whit Protek shock assembly, so the first step was carefully to remove the parts to see how they are mounted and to lubricate the o-rings

After o-ring lubrication is time to fill the shocks, I like the Team Associated shock oil, but I don't have the recommended 30w on my toolbox so I will try the Axial shock oils included in the SCX10II kit

It takes several tries but I finally get the desire shock rebound, Anyway I have to wait to test how this shocks work mounted on my rig

yes, this is an expensive hobby. I, always trying to find discounts,

In some orders, I have to deal with expensive shipping rates, in my case, online suppliers are the only way to get Rc parts, local hobby stores only sells toy grade or Traxxas I don't like traxxas

and finally the fx rate Mexican peso worths nothing

Is there any mail forwarding services you can use? When I lived in Guatemala I used a mail forwarding service who would give me a Florida address then courier my packages to me at around $3USD a package. I live in Canada now and that was actually cheaper then it is now for delivery.

The only real difference between your diagram & using the HH adapter is the additional - in the HH.
In the past it's been shown to avoid glitches by having the - all tied together (even though different running voltages)
I have 6 trucks, all running HV servos at 7.4v via HH adapter & 6v from the esc on the rest of the electrics with no problems.
The dual outlet adapter is nice for using the 2nd leg to power a winch, though I notice you have the 2.0 BEC which has the spare leg for something similar

I'd also check the expat forums in and around Puerto Vallarta since you aren't to terribly far, those Americans and Canadians are getting their Amazon fix for sure!

The service I used wasn't an official one like myus or anything, seemed sketchy at first but never had any problems. Was kind of a backdoor thing ran by the people who operated the local DHL franchise.

Just last night I worked on this bypass adapter.
I decide to bridge the ground signal as in HH bypass adapter.

According to the Holmes Hobbies website RX BYPASS ADAPTER gets signal from the RX and shares a dual ground path to both RX and external BEC to prevent floating ground issues (whatever that means)

Using some cheap servo extensions I made this

Material

Final result

I will upgrade that thin cables for 22 AWG heavy duty servo leads latter, just for durability

Let's install some SSD parts

SSD RC SCX10 II Pro Aluminum Knuckles
SSD Pro Aluminum C Hubs
SSD Pro Aluminum Rear Lockouts
SSD Front and rear brass weights

This parts should fit without problems on AR44 axles I just have to interchange the stock plastic parts.

I notice that is necessary to mount the shocks before the brass weights, otherwise, is impossible to have access to the lower shock screws.

In not going to mount this yet, I'm planning to install steel and titanium links later.

Finally, today I found a small car muffler repair shop, they have a welding machine so they can help me to modify the mount of the bumper to make it fit on the scx10 chassis, I hope the can do a decent work

hwllo friend. i also use the SSD knuckles. you can still dismount the shock without removing the knuckle. use one of the allen wrenches with the "round" style end and simply use the wrench at an slight angle (or use a very short wrench). dispite the angle the bolt still comes out fine. just did it a few times last night.

love your build. hope the mailmens gets a faster horse soon.
