Thought I had a bright idea.. for over drive.
 

So I modified my scx10 ii jeep trans thought this might give me over/under drive to my axles. Obviously I didn't think this through all the way. (Still don't know if it actually will create over/under.)
Pics below the long center shaft (still needs to be cut to size) spins opposite rotation of the correct drive output.
If I connected my rear driveline to center shaft my rear axle would rotate in reverse while front axle rotated forward.

You used the wrong gear. The center and bottom gears are the same. You should have used the top and bottom gears for OD/UD.

Someone else. possibly here, has done this and has even made a new shaft for the conversion. Though I have not heard from for a while now.

Also using the top gear makes your driveshaft rotate the correct direction. Or you could buy a set of reverse rotation gears from Deadlock or Hot Racing if they resupply.

Thanks for the info.
The reason I picked center gear is because
the top and center gear look the same size. the bottom gear is larger of the 3 gears.
I'll try to find the reverse cut gear set.

I've heard of some guys flipping the rear axle upside down. I need to figure out how they did that.

Flipping the axle works for AR60 axles. You can just flip the internals as they go either way. The AR44 won't do this.

I think I seen guys flipping the whole axle upside down. Bad part was the high pinion became a low pinion but I'm not sure if I need a aftermarket axle case.

I haven't had time to scroll through build threads yet.
But I'm thinking the easy thing would be reverse cut diff gears. If I can find any available.

Ssd diamond housing allows the gears to be flipped and it makes the rear into an low pinion.

Deadloc has the reverse cut gears but like everything else from them they're probably out of stock.

Yea, deadloc has/had a flip kit too at one point.


Here is a flipped diamond. No mods or proprietary parts needed.

the diamond is the easiest for rev. rot. it can be done with stock housing too. you have to flip housing, cut off existing upper link mounts and build/braze or weld a new steel truss with new upper link mounts (fab tabs from RPP). I have done this with a few stock housings and it works well "thumbsup"

Thanks guys.. but this isn't gonna happen the center output would overdrive the rear axle.

If you look close you'll notice red sharpie on both center and bottom output shafts. This is how I figured out center output would overdrive the rear axle.

Thanks for thread link I wonder why it seems the way I molded the trans it seems to over drive the rear?
I'll post a better video to get your guys opinions if you think center shaft is over or under drive?

Maybe if I used the top shaft the rear would be slower because the speed to the rear axle comes directly from transmission not the transfer case.
O'well I tried... now to order a front overdrive gear.

Update so I made a new transmission shaft that exits the top of trans-case. It does give me correct rotation that was a plus. However this mod will only override the front axle if the transmission was in stock location.

So this mod doesn't give your front axle over drive. It over drives the rear axle.
I did this mod with stock gears.

I slapped the rig back together stock and I'll just order over drive diff gears.

So here's what I missed on the other build thread. Looks like that guy fliped the whole transfer case.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Attempt #3 for "free overdrive"
After looking really close at the other guys mod I finally achieved overdrive to the front axles... mother****er this mod took way to long.

I noticed the guy flipped the T-case to achieve overdrive to front axle which creates a problem how to bolt T-case to transmission. The other guy used 2 3mm screws kinda going into the outside of transmission. I ended up using 1 3mm screw top drivers side of T-case for the other side bent a piece of aluminum for a bracket and bolted it to the skid plate. Also had to cut the splines off the t-case that went into the transmission (original top) now it's the bottom where the front driveline connects to T-case.
Now everything works as it should my rig now has over/underdrive axles.
Fingers crossed transmission doesn't explode on 1st comp course.

Good deal! I was hoping you'd keep at it.

This is the one thing I was trying to figure out for one of my builds, I stalled on how to get overdrive on the scx10.2 axles (without using boom racing).

I wonder if we could get a vender on the forum to make some of these shafts?
