Default My Raw Builder's Kit

I haven't posted much lately but I've been doing more crawling and trailing than building. I've beat the hell out of my old SCX10II/Hilux and it's time for a new truck. The old one is fine aside from the body so I'll find something to do with that one soon. Being happy with my upgrades on my main rig, most of what I'm using is identical to the parts on that truck.

Anyways the Raw Builder's Kit seems like the way to go since I swap out so much stuff anyways. In fact, as far as SCX10II stuff goes I don't see buying anything else again. It's the perfect base as far as I'm concerned (opinions may vary)...

Bits and pieces:

Vanquish Currie Rock Jocks
Pitbull 1.9 Beasts
SSD Slot Mags
Holmes Hobbies TRAILMASTER SPORT 550 21T
Hobbywing 1080 ESC
Incision shafts
Desert Lizard Shocks
ZOSKAY 1X DS3218 Servo (cheap and tough from Amazon)

I guess I like the black metal links well enough. At least they're not silver. I'm actually quite fond of the SCX10II plastic links as in the "better of the 2 versions" they've had. I like how they look and they're super tough.

Sexy old school wheels!

It's easy enough to see where I'm going with this.

Looking good so far. Least your body is ready for painting. You know sometimes it's ok to go out crawling and forget the projects your working on. But it's always fun to sit down and build, just so many decisions and not enough time.

I need that Chevy body. I don't have enough bodies stacked in my closet. Hmmm that doesn't sound creepy..

Are you putting in an interior? I building the same kit and '66 body for my dad, and I want to put in the Proline Classic Interior. But the seat hits right on top of the transmission. Now I'm debating to raise the whole setup until I put in a scale trans, or cut the interior to fit the trans.

I have the same interior sitting on my work bench. I haven't even tried to fit it yet so I can't really answer that.

So very true. I travel for work so I don't have the luxury of tinkering in the garage on week nights. I have to try and jam all of my crawling, building, jamming, grilling, chilling and beer into 2 or 3 days. Jeez. I need to clean out the jon boat and go fishing too...

Since it's been either raining non-stop or just way too cold in Georgia, I haven't been able to paint the body yet. So to keep me occupied I've bought an acetylene torch, some steel, and some bending tools. So far I've not fired up the torch since I can't get the bottle open. Yes, I have to right tool (cylinder wrench). I just think a lummox over-torqued it closed and I don't want get too forceful on a tank of blow the hell up and burn the house down gas. Gotta swap that out.

Bending steel tube is very gratifying though...

Looks like it's going to be a sweet build! Cool looking license plates.

That sounds like a Homer Simpson/Big Wheeled bike taunt...

I love the Axial axles. Especially the guts which fit perfectly into the Vanquish Curries.

The Axial stuff is great. AR44s just don't look like real world axles to me. Performance wise, they're top-notch.

Long time no post... We had a crappy rainy winter. It took a while to have a good day or two for paint. This is all I've got so far. Mocked up, looks plain. There are several coats of paint and I will weather it up some. There is silver under the lexan for bare metal, then (outer paint) primer, rust, and orange. It should self patina nicely on the trail.

It's all loosely based on this gorgeous truck:

Progress is a little slow, but it's coming along nicely.

That is awesome! Nice work! Are those the original 4.45" tall Rock Beasts?

I don't know the height of the tires. I think they are the shorter Rock Beasts though. I have other taller tires that didn't fit the stance I wanted for this truck.
