Fancy bumper designed and built by me did not stand up to a hard crawl on the weekend. So much for brass and styrene. See here my new design mounted up, built out of solid cold rolled steel.

Cheers....

Couple of automotive panel fasteners to plug the frame holes...

And a coat of texture before the flat black goes on

Might I suggest cutting off the ProLine factory bumpers? IMO the factory bumpers are really taking away from the front and rear. The metal bumpers you added is all this rig needs... This will help bring your body down a tad as well...

Excellent observation. Thanks for the suggestion.

Funny where one comment will lead you. I asked myself why I couldn't bring myself to cut off the stock bumpers and the answer was the realization that I have come to understand the difference between rock crawlers and trail trucks, and that I prefer the second one. This prompted me to remove the monster tires and mount up something you might find on a fleet truck in the real world, and this in turn allowed me to lower the body--wasnt easy what with all the gear I had stuffed under the hood. Plus I had to make new rock sliders/running boards, but this was good too, because the lowered body meant I could use the handy and protective supplied boat sides that had never fit flush with the body edge before. They still don't, but I was able to bolt on pieces that do. Here's the result. A lot harder to go up and over things that were easy with the big tires, but the truck reminds me more of things I used to drive around in myself, and I like that.

No environmentally sensitive areas were impacted creating this route, unless you count sweeping away leaves.

Looks great. I might add though that the suggestion probably came from your truck having two front bumpers, which you don't typically see on a trail truck or a crawler. Again, your Comanche looks awesome and I'm not picking at it hehe.

Gotcha, which is why I removed the extra bar at the back and made the front one higher--to look more like the kind of bull bars that mount over regular bumpers by design.

Though mine are pretty robust bull bars, I give you that. I will take those off when the MOT/DOT makes them illegal (it's coming).

Thanks for the compliment.

My tires seem to be getting smaller and smaller. From the massive Traxxas Canyon Trails to these

and finally these

Could lower the body some more, but not going to, since I may go back to bigger tires if conditions demand.

Very good sidehill stability, when you really need it -- like here, or you take a bath.

Bananaclip, if you're out there...

For reasons I specified I won't be cutting the body anytime soon, but I took your advice to heart, removed the back bumper and made yet another new fab for the front. It bolts to the frame and comes up over the stock bumper just like a real bull bar.

Before...

After...

Plus, the old one kept getting caught on stuff. This one is just as strong, half the weight, and tucked away. I'm still calling this a prototype. I have a feeling one more "finished" version lurks.

Seeing as my rig was never meant to be Class 1 anyway, I mounted up RC4WD TSL Sr Swampers - X3 compound. At first, I thought, oh no, too big. But then I went for a drive. They're perfect for the conditions around me. And the SSD steelies are just the ticket. Really high quality parts.

Those Falkens must have been from your Barrage BTD kit - no? I have a set sitting around from my BTD kit as well. I have since moved on (like you) to SSD wheels and better tires. I'm planning to build an overland camping trailer, and might use at least two of them.

Your Comanche looks great!

Thanks! I like it too.

Yes, those Falkens were never up to the task on the Barrage. True story... I pulled up next to a guy on the way to the mall the other day he had the exact 1:1 tires, so that tells you something. However, they were not awful on the Comanche, which weighs a lot more (not great either).

The new boggers are a blessing. For one thing, the foams don't become waterlogged when I drive through the creek. They're as capable as the TRX4 Canyon Trails I had on this rig for a while--but those were vented. So, pretty remarkable that the boggers are as good.

Cheers...

Having a little fun with more bull bars, after mangling the one from last week in a massive endo. The materials were selected for mock-up purposes only, but now I dunno...looks kind of funky, and the dumb ECX stickers somehow lend ersatz legitimacy.

I like that last one the best. The boggers are quite good though not quite as Proline Tsl's, imo. they are avalible in 4.3" size and I run them on my Honcho...

Thanks. I went for the extra height, but not crazy high like the big prolines. A Goldilocks situation.
