this has been an awesome thread to read through!
really cool work with the truck.
i really appreciate how you are building it up over time as you would a real truck.....
adding parts and modifying as the situations call for it...

My dog appreciates your dog appreciating my truck...

Honestly, yours is the best compliment ever, considering how Boo is a member of our family. My daughter, Holly, will literally lose it when she sees your video.

Boo may not look the part, but he's trail-rated--that brave first 4x4 ready to take on a new section, without hesitation.

More on your other post in a bit, when I get the tears out of my eyes...

Your comment really resonates because that's what I set out to do. I have nothing but respect for guys with the foresight (and cash) to lay in a pile of expensive parts before a build even starts, but I wanted this one to be like you say, a guy in his garage, working on his daily commuter--save up a little money, take a trip to 4X4Parts.ca. Kids need new Nikes, furnace needs a new motor--make do or make it yourself. Btw isn't it funny how in 1/10 scale the cost is about 1/10 that of 1:1 hop-up parts?

I have more updates to contribute when time permits. Some bright ideas just didn't pan out, or begged another try.

Glad you enjoyed/are continuing to enjoy. Really appreciate the feedback. And, of course, Sedona is epic.

its actually astounding how true it is..
a scale winch is 35 dollars.
a scale bumper is 35 dollars.
a scale 3dprinted interior is 75 dollars..

its all a tenth...

And before someone says, "not batteries!" I think you have to compare our power packs to like, a Tesla, not a Diehard.

I've gone back to the SSD stamped steelies and RC4WD boggers, while the heavy cast metal Gmade rims and super fat Traxxas Canyon Trail tires
are once again sitting in the parts bin.

The SSD/bogger combo does not offer the crazy-good grip of the other, but it looks right for the vehicle, and sometimes you have to give up a little performance
to strike the right balance, when it comes to scale trailing.

Been making a few adjustments and stuff.

Pretty much self explanatory. Differerent wheel and tire combinations, a bunch of prototype bumpers and sliders...

After many experiments....

Finally got a bumper I like, that can take the punishment. Got rid of the vertical front plate with the lights mounted to it, and ShoeGooed everything directly to the body, like everyone else in the world.

The Traxxas shocks are superb.

Building out a detailed interior was fun.

Running sealed tires (my other summer experiment) was a bust. But vented tires with conventional foams didn't cut it either, in my wet conditions. So I experimented with making my own closed cell foams.

After all the work I did trying to reinvent the way we arrange compoments, I decided I had overdone it, especially that fancy shelf for the rx/esc, and the battery system at the back.

So I simplified things, including ditching the receiver box that would never seal properly, in favour of the balloon approach RC boaters have used forever. Three cheap Chinese-brand servos all exploded. I'm back to running a quality Savox with a bathing cap. The stock sintered ring and pinion gears let me down (started slipping) and I now run hardened steel SSD six bolt locker combos front and back. Man, are they good.

I run open spur cover now, and the greatly simplified slider/floor panels that I cut from and old toolbox are a blessing.

I continue to be astonished by what this rig is capable of. And I push it really hard.

Thanks for following the journey.

Love the front guard, exactly what this body style looks good with! I like the fact that you’re thinking realism as what would actually be needed for the trucks given purpose.

Thanks! This proud rig is meant to be a workhorse, not a competition beast or a mall princess. I know the final guard version is doing its job because the bottom rail keeps getting bent, broke, replaced, and in the process saves bodywork. Meanwhile, it doesn't degrade the approach angle, allowing me to get one tire up a steep rockface if I come in at an angle.

Again...thanks. Nice to hear I'm on track.
