Another weekend and a lot more wheel time. Had the marlin and the 10.2 out at valley of fire and was blown away by the scenery and the rocks out there. It’s about an hour to an hour and a half outside of Las Vegas and well worth the trip.

Still very happy with this rig, and I don’t plan on making many other changes except for perhaps some lower link/shock mounts. Originally started this as a precursor to the toyzuki but it’s impressed me so much that I can’t tear it apart. Sourced the parts needed for the toyzuki build separately so this build can stay as is.

Here are some photos and a clip from Sunday

Wow. That looks awesome. Wish we had more terrain like that here in New York. We mostly have wooded areas without the nice dry rock formations like you have.

Finally got the C10 body on and out in the wild. The tiny tires fit well and clear the wells great. Light trailing today nothing crazy.

Had another fun run this weekend with the local squad. This truck continues to impress me, I’m glad I didn’t tear it down for the toyzuki build.

On that note, the scratch toyzuki is nearing completion, just need to get a bent pan hard and some super swampers and it will be ready for it’s first run. I’ll start another thread with pics and info on that build in the next week or so.

For now, here’s some more JK action and a trx4 blazer taking flight

Nice, congrats on the shift change that’s great. It’d be good to get some more wheeling in and see what your wraith is doing these days.

Stopped by the crawl space while I was in Colorado and wheeled around their indoor course for a bit. Very awesome shop. Their parts selection was great for aftermarket and replacement pieces as well as a ton of stuff you won’t see at your average rc shop, let alone their own chassis kits. Picked up the beginnings of a new project while I was there.

I really dig this Jeep with BFGs. So which truck crawls better, the SCX or the TRX? Which one do you enjoy driving more?

Thanks! Those little KM3s with CI foams just like to do some work. I love them.

But, man, that’s a really hard question to answer. Both trucks are very capable and hit mostly the same lines, however driving them is so different. The trx4 has clearance for days with the portals and class 2 tires, whereas the 10.2 is the complete opposite.

Lately the 10.2 has been seeing more wheel time but I think it has more to do with the change of pace with the tiny tires.

Maybe one of these days I’ll take both out at the same time and put together a video of them going head to head.

This climb here in the beginning that the little JK does is a nice one...

Love the video! Those tiny tires get it done!! That would be cool if you took both of them out head-to-head on the same lines. The reason I ask the previous question is I'm looking to buy my first 1.9 scaler. I want a truck that crawls well, but also is challenging to drive. I don't want a truck that climbs over everything so easily that it becomes somewhat boring like my Wraith.

I was looking at either the trx4 or the new element Enduro, then last night I stumbled across the SCX10 II Raw Builders kit. Man that is a nice looking kit, although I heard the shocks suck. I would like to build a kit though whatever it is that I buy. One of the things I like about the scx10 II is how the battery tray lays across the front of the truck lengthwise over the axles. Decisions decisions.

If you have the budget for it the 10.2 can be built up to perform really well.

But if you want something you can drive out of the box without many upgrades I’d go for the trx4 sport or consider the enduro.

There isn’t much on my 10.2 that is stock anymore. I think just some axle internals, the transmission, rails/braces, link mounts, and the receiver box.

They are all good options though, I don’t have any regrets about any of em

What is the budget ballpark for a 10.2 build to do the truck right, minus Electronics?

Hmm. Depends on where you start. But decent upgrades I’d suggest would be ssd pro 44 axles front and rear. Ssd brass front knuckles. Boom racing (or HR) front overdrive gears, metal beadlocks, dual stage foams, hyrax/super swamper/voodoo KLR/rock beast tire, traxxas gts or ssd Shocks, Samix/ssd/hardcore rc links, and a lot of testing and tuning

If you get the mog or Cherokee kit then I’d also recommend the Samix front battery tray, however it won’t work on any RTRs or the RBK.

That’s about in the $400-$450 range in parts I think.

If you want a 10.2 base and a good performer check out the new SSD Trail King Kit that’s coming out. It looks like a winner to me.

That's really awesome. I haven't had much time to really enjoy my XJ since I moved from CO. I need to just lock myself in the garage and give it a good rebuild and get out with it.

This Jeep just keeps making lines that others can’t. This one below my Jeep is the only one that I’ve seen make it so far, not to say that others can’t. But it’s the only one that has, certainly the only one out of all of mine that hits this line. Hope to have the trx4 running again by thanksgiving so we’ll see if it can hit the same line
