Are you gonna add plug wires? Could probably use like 24-28g electrical wire

Yes, I am planning on wiring plugs. That’s a good suggestion. It’s hard to know how much detail is good and how much is overkill. I grew up on model cars and customizing them to the hilt but I want to be able to take this out and get it dirty too. I don’t want it to be too much of a shelf queen. I think I am going to switch to the hard body Cherokee from the lexan though. I like the challenge the hardbody brings as well as detail. I build for my enjoyment and not competition anyway.

Ya. I don't think there's to much detail when it comes to to the engine bay. Hell I'd probably even add a radiator and use some 6-8g wire as the hoses?.. but it's all ur preference

My plan is to integrate the servo and radiator. Maybe hide the servo in/under the radiator.

This is a AMC 4.0L i6, I designed and printed from the ground up. It houses a electric motor, single speed multi gear transmission and 4wd transfer case. It also has a non-functioning throttle body, water pump, power steering pump, alternator, intake w/ fuel injection rail, exhaust manifold, oil filter, distributor and a starter. It is still a work in progress...

Very very impressive!

I really like it. I like that it's not another V8.

What 3D printer do you use and what material?

Where do you get the shafts and gears?

This really is great work and the use of the Axial transmission parts makes it even better. This could compel me to build something out of the most of a SCXII sitting in my bin of parts.

Yeah, I wanted to stay true to the Jeep XJ powerplant. There are several V8’s but to my knowledge only one other inline 6 out there. I actually started from the transmission and worked my way both directions.

I use a modified Maker Select i3 Plus (Wanhao) and I use PLA Plus.

I used the SCX10.2 kit transmission parts. I did add a couple extra bearings for more support. I also use a 5mm ID pinion drilled through and use a threaded cross pin to secure the gear.

Yes. It is a 45t 48p 5mm ID Robinson Steel Pinion.

Here are some of the 3D shots to show the internal details.

Wouldn’t be hard to make the serp belt functional. Some small screws and brass tubing as bushings. Add a small servo motor inside the ac compressor. It looks like the pulleys are already separated from most of the components anyways. Would give it that one extra bit of realism that most don’t have.

I did make the pulleys separate so the belt could be added on as a separate part. I used 4mm black elastic from the local craft store. I used E6000 glue to attached the belt ends. Strong and flexible. I didn’t however thing of making them move. Originally I printed the belt as part of the pulley layout but decided I wanted silver pulleys while most of the components were black or silver. I might look at the possibility of doing that. I’m not sure I have room for anything else in the block.

Absolutte great work on the transmission and engine!
Is there a front support for the motor?

There are mounts on the sides of the block and I am creating a bracket from the frame that also acts as a securing piece for the shock hoops that fits inside the “c” channel frame. Then you can secure with a M3 and nut similar to a real motor mount.

Sounds like a fine concept, both scale and functional
Where`s the like button when you need one?

Here is the latest update. Made a few more changes and basically updated the design from the transfer case forward.

I am looking at making something similar out of the guts of an SXC10 kit gearbox and was wondering exactly what you were using for shafts, since they look a tad different to the stock shafts.

Really nice project BTW.

The bottom shaft is original but I had the gear slide turned down. The top shaft I had machined smaller. Otherwise everything is from the SCX10.2 kit trans.
